Default Vsa light on AND Handbrake light flickering on and off!

Hey

So I've just got home from bedford from my track day. Great day apart from my driving being shocking in the morning!

Well half way through the day my vsa and the yellow triangle that lights up when the system is sorting out the car both came on!

First thoughts were, great, vsa failure, massive bill due. However coming and and turning the car off and starting it again cleared it. But about half way around the next lap it came back on.

I went off track and got the light out agin by restarting the car, slammed on the brakes and the abs works. Went back on track with no light and provoked the traction control and that works.

However on hard cornering the hand brake light I noticed was flicking on also. Straight line it would go out.

On the drive home the vsa light came on shortly after leaving and the handbrake light came on and off for periods, sometimes coming to a stop at lights would bring on the handbrake light

I've had new discs and pads fitted and they have done two track days and only drives to and from the track, I can see they have plenty of meat left.

At low speeds it sounds like the passenger side rear disc is rubbing. But no smell from it after driving and not all the time.

Could it be brake related rather than a vsa failure? I am thinking /praying so!

The car also went off the track twice on to the grass, one to avoid a car, another poor driving. Perhaps something got knocked?

Ideas of what could be causing this great appreciated! I'm thinking get the brakes properly looked at first.

Typically my extended guarantee ran out in march and I didnt renew. Perhaps I should look to get one ASAP and then take it in

Rob

Possibly fluid related from what I'm reading?

I saw a suggestion to check inside rear brake pads... Going to be a bit annoyed if the pads are shot after 2 track days. Like I said visually the outside pads all round have loads left.

has the fluid level dropped which is the basis of how the system warns you about the level of the pads?

I'll go and have a check. Searching around, thinking it could be a seized calliper on the rear? Not releasing the handbrake cable slack and the vsa noticing an issue as well?

Fluid is my best guess - have had similar happen to me.

And get the extended warranty, it makes no sense not to.

So the brake fluid is way off max, it is at at a line half way down. Looks fluid related then and must be low pads causing it I guess then? They look fine, guess I need to take the wheels off for a proper look.

Hopefully this is going to be the cause.... But means those expensive pads could be on their way out already!

As my car is fairly modded now, I wasn't sure it was worth it. Induction kit and full exhaust and flash pro would invalidate against any engine problem I was thinking. I could remove remap i guess if i need to take it in. Most other parts have been changed also now.

Track days are a killer on brake components. Maybe you have a slightly sticky rear caliper. Best bet is to strip all the brakes down including the front and have a look for anything obvious. If you think about it you will be wearing down the thickness of the pads at all 4 pistons so with each press your requiring more and more fluid hence the low brake fluid level.

Im pretty sure VSA works by applying the brakes to regain traction so depending on your driving style you could be making the system kick in enough to further increase brake wear.

One of the first jobs i done on s2000 when i brought it was to strip the brakes down and regrease. I learnt the hard way with previous honda ownership that the slider pins need to be looked after on a regular basis

Thanks, yep that's how vsa works, it grabs the brakes individully to counter spins (it also has traction control to control wheel spin). I'll get the brakes looked at, hopefully a strip down, check of the pads and a fluid top up will get the lights out

The line half way down is the minimum line - this is exactly what I had after Oulton. Add some fluid and all will be fine.
