Default VTEC advice, please?

Right, I know this may seem like a daft question, and I dare say I'll get absolutely lambasted for asking it, but here goes anyway. I've had my S2 for about a month now, bought from new, and am about to reach the end of the (handbook specified) 625mile run-in period, luckily just in time for the weekend. I've kept religiously below 5000rpm until now, but am desparate to hear and feel my very own VTEC, but.......um, how? I mean, do I floor it in 1st (prob not a good idea), or as its still a new engine, should I maybe let the revs build up from 3rd/4th gear? Does gear selection even matter? I read with quite some interest a previous post about NOT VTECing while the engine is cold (cant remember reading that in the handbook). That was news to me, and I'm sure theres plenty more I should know.

Any advice (except the sarcastic kind ) is, as always, very welcome.

It's all very simple...

Hop in your car, drive about a bit without stretching it and let the engine warm up for about 10mins. Once the car has been bought nicely to the boil and you have the 3 bars on the dash, find yourself a nice bit of road, drop it 2 cogs and unleash the beast.

There haven't been any reported engine failures due to VTEC, well not public ones, so I think you're going to have to go some to break it.

8 bars on my 04 but thats just the water temp the oil will need a bit longer maybe 15 mins after. also you should increase the revs by just 1000 for the next 100 (i Think) or so kilometres and then increase another 1000 etc.

I think what UK S2000 is trying to say is that you can VTEC once 3 bars are showing - normal running temp is 8 bars :-)

No, the earlier cars only have 6 bars, with 3 being normal running temp.

You reds, you should always warm a car up before thrashing it (any car). Have a read of the tech faq (click the smilie in my sig)

VTEC will kick in at around 6000rpm whatever gear you're in. Next time you drive her, instead of changing up at 5000 revs, keep the pedal down until 9000 comes up......

(this is after you've given it 10-15 minutes to warm up)

the engine has a limiter on it to prevent higher revs when cold : ie, when less than 3 bars on older models.

Foot + hard down = lots of

after warming her up of course.

Driving an S2000 is a lot like making love to a beautiful woman.

First of all undo the clips and take her top off,
make sure your dipstick has the correct amount of lubricant,
ease yourself in. It's not an easy access but worth it in the end,
After warming her up a bit you can make her howl.
