Default VTEC in the cold

This morning I had to accelrate quickly out of a bad junction and hit VTEC briefly whilst the car was still cold and there was a limiter type effect literally just after I hit it - is this a fact? Is there a limiter that stops VTEC engaging when the engine is cold? It was only on one bar (and I kicked myself afterwards)

yup - vtec won't kick in until two bars are showing on the temp gauge - best to wait for three bars though to be nice to the car

Yep, I did this too just after I first got my S

Be gentle on it until it's all warm and cosy under the bonnet!

I always keep mine under 4k until I've done a few miles.

It's a limiter, it's there to stop damage, it did it's job. Be pleased that Honda expected you to try to hurt their car and stopped you.

Don't do it again!

It's hardly a problem I have.

I always wait for 3 bars before booting it but at the moment that takes approximately 1km to get up to temp.

There are 2 cold temp limiters iirc. One around 5k, and the other around 7k.

LOL, I hit this for the first time this morning as well. I was acclerating past a vehicle and didn't realise the vtec was about to engage and I hit the limiter at around 6k proper hard. I couldn't believe how violent it was

Oh THATs what that's all about.

I really should get around to reading the manual. Ahem.
