They work in that they will lower the VTEC point, but they dont seem to make the car any faster!

If its done via a mapped ECU it can be useful, but I personally dont trust the controllers...

You can also adjust the air/fuel ratio, by adding or taking away fuel. which is where it really might make you some hp. i.e leaning the mixture out

not great though.

I'm not saying this to be an arse (honestly), but have either of you guys had one installed or driven a S2000 with a Vafc? Because if setup right it's one of the best mods for cheap HP you can get and it makes the S2000 even more enjoyable than it already is. I'm not sure why you wouldn't like'em?

Ironhead, did you have a Vafc before the ECU? or did you go stright to the J's, I can't remember. The J's ECU is better than the Vafc, but a lot more money.

I liked mine

Gained 15 BHP peak, plus had a wider power band. Not easy to setup but its how the S2000 should be from the factory. The rev limiter indicator lights really fly?s towards the red line with the Vafc installed
The controller has less effect on the 04 onward cars, due to Honda altering the fuel map. You'll definitely notice a difference if it's installed correctly on anything earlier than 04 model car.

I posted my thoughts at the time, sometimes in 2003

PS. Don't forget you'll need to include rolling road tuning for the complete setup cost too.

Subaru2000

I have not driven or had an S2000 with one, but have a Civic VTI.

I did not say they don't do anything. I said you may make some hp i would assume around 10bhp.

My comments regarding it being not great is more in comparison to a fully mapable ecu or a modified ecu (J's, Amuse etc...). I would say they are better whilst not running the risk of too lean a mixture. and may not be any more expensive depending on your mods/plans.

Yeah IH

I wasn't being funny.

Of course you have to install the thing right and then it won't run lean. But even with Rolling road tuning its still la lot cheaper than anything else. Tuning cost me
