Default VTEC Kick off throttle response

Hi Guys,
Basically, I have my new 03 s2000 and have only had it for a couple of days, the car seems to be completely stock, but does have an aftermarket manifold on it (unsure of the make.) Any way I can go over the 6k RPM Vtec crossover point and if I'm not at wide open throttle the car doesn't activate vtec until I'm 100% foot to the floor. now this isn't a problem at all, I actually quite like it. But in my other 51 plate s2000 if I went over 6k RPM at any point the engine would crossover regardless of throttle position.

Now I heard that when people F tune these cars, they can be set up to do this to save fuel or what ever.

So my question is really could my car have been mapped? or are the 2003 models different?

Thanks

Interesting question - for it to have been mapped you'd have an aftermarket ECU so have a look at it (passenger footwell behind the side plastic) you may have a bonus AEM series one sitting behind there! although people who have a tune would also tend to have the vtec point lowered too does it kick in earlier in the revs than the standard 6250 or whatever it is

All I can say is that once over the threshold on my 53 plate facelift - vtec is like your first car and engages not just at 100% throttle.

VTEC shouldn't engage on partial throttle.

Something else i've learnt! I assumed it just engaged at 6k regardless and i probably couldn't hear/notice it as much as i was feathering the throttle on occasion.

what is this "feathering of throttle" you speak of ? there's only foot to the floor or off isn't there ? maybe this is why I've not noticed.

This was my conclusion. But I want to test this also. Perhaps resurrect the 'Does vtec kick in while reversing' thread

Maybe I've been driving mine wrong all along then? I'm going home to test if my vtec engages at partial throttle going forwards and backwards.

I'll report back with accident pictures and a part out thread very soon!
