Default VTEC loss

Hi all,
hope someone can help, when I go into VTEC >6k I hear the note and the engine revs rise, however intermittently the revs keep rising but there is no pull, no drive, almost like the clutch is slipping or has been depressed (it hasn't of course). Can anyone tell me what is likely to be the problem here, thanks.

Fuel filter needs changing?
Speaking from experience with ATR's, if oil level was low, it would stop vtec engagement all together.... so wouldnt have thought it would be that.

Just a guess really..... if fuel is being starved due to clogged up filter, I would imagine it would lose power..... and it would be more noticable in vtec.... But like I say.... just a guess really.

Revs keep rising but no acceleration? That'll be the clutch then.
