VTech
I have owned my Sk2 for some 6 weeks now and have taken the revs to 7000 an d beyond but am I missing something? Perhaps I am expecting too much? Could someone explain what I should be experiencing when Vteching please?
The 04s are supposed to have less of a VTEC crossover, but to be honest, even the older cars can sometimes not quite 'get in the zone'.
Wait for it to warm, and the most important thing to do if you wanna feel the crossover is pedal to the metal from the start!

You should still hear a change in engine note at 6k even with an '04.
'VTEC' really means you can go to the manic heights of 9000 rpm
It's great overtaking someone at around 4500 rpm in 3rd, and then when the VTEC kicks in

Assuming you have done over 600 miles - and most people say go to 1000 miles - take her to 9,000. It is using the 6,000 to 9,000 rev range that is the thrill. Not just dipping in to VTEC once in a while, using that power band to accelerate through the gears.
having had the "hardcore" MY00 comparing it to my current "soft" MY04 the vtec in the 04 is less noticeable but it is there. The car is just as quick, having seen 04s up against earlier cars on trackdays.IIRC it was explained that Honda have smoothed out the torque curve at the vtec point. The early cars actually have a slight dip just before vtec, this is partly what makes it more noticeable.
Just
and use the full rev range then you will get it

Pull off and floor the car in first all the way to the red line, repeat the process in second, third and if you like forth. You should now be going very fast and grining like an idiot.
That's the point.
