Default Wake Up!

We were driving home after a nice day a the beach, doing about 80 on a straight stretch of the m3...

Wedged in the middle lane was a focus doing about 70, so i pulled out and overtook... I glanced across and saw a woman driving with a fairly hunched driving position...

I'm always wary of cutting in and carving people up, so I left my usual gap and pulled back infront... Next thing I know is the focus is right up my arse, headlights flashing... I had no idea what was going on - the car was *really* close and then pulled out and zoomed off... I watched as she then slowed down and pulled back in further up the motorway...

A couple of minutes later I pulled back past her again and noticed she was sat totally upright... She was also wearing a light blue top that looked like a nurses' uniform... We reckon that she'd nodded off on her way home from work and woke up as I overtook her...

Was quite a scary moment!...

My dad fell asleep on the M6 once after a long work shift. He awoke as he hit the barrier and sparks started flying, luckily he didn't hit at one of the gaps and latch onto a barrier (nowadays those type of barriers have been replaced for that reason).

Why would she flash her lights at you though, do you think she may have leaned against the light stalk?

Scary stuff, I can't imagine falling asleep at the wheel I find it difficult enough when I'm in bed.

That's one reason I hate driving sofas - Try sleeping in a topless S2000.

It was reckoned that the majority of motorway shunts were due to microsleep. But there was no money in it, so they stopped campaigning.

My wife managed it for about 4 hours in the passenger seat in France at an average speed of 110ish!! (KPH Officer!)

........................but then again she is rather special!!

I think the top down wind noise can make ppl sleepy. Jules has also fallen asleep with the top down on the motorway at 90mph as has a colleague!

i think she flashed her lights because she was panicking as she reorientated herself...

i can't think of any other reason as the motorway was almost empty and i definitely didn't carve her up...

i'm just glad she didn't shunt me...
