Default Washing the engine....

Hi guys,

I see you all posting pictures of spotless engines and I am getting a bit jealous.
I clean mine regullarly with a damp cloth but the red cam cover is a bit stained ( from oil drops when toping up) and definitelly not as clean or as bright red as the ones I see posted.

What should I use and what should I cover to avoid contact with water?

Any suggestions, tips, etc????

Cheers all.

cdel,

I don't bother to clean mine - it's covered in oil stains.

Don't they say a clean engine bay makes people suspicious about what you're trying to hide?

(and oil stains do demonstrate that you top up with oil, unlike certain celebrity owners - allegedly )

A good question! I too would appreciate some informed hints! Not so much the red bit - but all the inaccessible bits down the side. Understand ianl cleans his regularly - so...

Following my digging in the W&W forum a while back, I opted for the lazy option

Cover all bits that need covering with plastic bags etc.

Spray Gunk all over the place

jet wash

I was scared, but it came up a treat

wanabe also suggests citrus cleaner, wtf that is

I used Auto Glym engine cleaner and a paintbrush then jet washed it.

Only problem was that I lost a chunk of red paint off the engine cover

I didn't cover anything except the battery with a plastic bag. All the electrics are well sealed in plastic boxes anyway.
