Default Water in boot

Found the area of the boot under the tool kit to be wet when i lifted it out today.

Never noticed it in the dry months, any ideas where it could be getting in?, are tail lights prone to leaking?

Cheers

take off the carpeted cover, just behind the bumper area, you will see a black plastic vent, top or bottom seal will be buggered, so dry it all up, and apply lots of silicone sealant around it, should be good as new after that. (don't forget to mop up all the water under the carpet, there may be quite a bit).

...and...drill a hole in the floor of the boot. There is a rubber bung thing there which is easily drilled.

I had an inch of water once...its gone now

The vent is the upward facing (circled in red) black plastic tube, it has flaps on it if you blow through it from the inside. Dry everywhere near it and close the boot lid. Get half a bucket of water and pour it over the bootlid, give it a minute or two to run off then open the boot. Hopefully you will see that the rubber seals around the vent look wet, there's where the water should be getting in.

This area needs completely drying again before you seal ALL around it, it's a bit fiddly but worth the effort, use a pair of Marigolds for applying the silicone. Give it 24 hours to dry and try the bucket test again, don't be scared of putting lots of silicone around it, you can't see it anyway when the carpet is re-attached.

The rubber bung Shipley mentioned is the red dot on the left (not sure if you can do both?)

Stood at the back of the car looking into the boot, it is on the left behind the carpeted moulding, red in this pic...

Thanks for that....

I would say my water is dripping from the top left of the square you have drawn. Basically where their is a step for the "golf bag" I can see that it is slightly wet.

Any ideas?
