Default What first Manifold or Cat back system?

Hi all,

Just want peoples opinions really. What would you recommend doing first a cat back system or a new manifold? I hear the standard cat back isn't very restrictive just heavy.

Cheers

Matt

The garage-r system is getting good reviews

-my HKS sounds awesome, for full performance gains get a sports cat / decat and single!

If you do the complete system, I would get a CAI to aid breathing and at that point you would prob need an ECU to tune the AF back to a safe setting!

You will notice a difference with just a catback.

I'd do the cat back first, just for weight. I've never noticed a performance difference when i've put the OEM one back on! Breathing mods are pretty much all or nothing on the S2000.

I've already gutted the oem airbox. I really don't like the look of the aem air filter. Car is already de-catted so wanted to know what peoples opinion were on weather to do the manifold first or cat back. Both will be done just what to do first. I'll be going for a twin set up as again I don't like the look of a single. I understand the weight and flow gains of a single but just not for me as its a weekend car and occasional track car. I'm driving down to the south of France next year so don't want it loud or droning as I will go nuts lol.

Cheers for your responses

It's the drone on some systems that will send you bonkers. eg. some of the HKS and other twins have a nasty resonance at around 4000rpm (motorway speeds in 5th and 6th) which will leave you with bleeding eye sockets. very much a case of get yourself along to a meet and try to get a ride with some owners of various systems, far better than listening to the tube.

The above mentioned Garage R system has a resonator to reduce drone and some systems like the mighty Mugen don't suffer from it. there is a long list of what's available and many opinions of what sounds good or not.

I have the Mugen system and can't fault it although it's not cheap, but it does sound lovely without being offensive. Seems to make a difference in noise and power with the decat fitted too.

I'm going to get a the system made for me as I want oval ends and the only system I have found so far is a supersprint that do it which is expensive and I haven't seen or heard what it sounds like. It won't be some cheap nasty bends system it will be mandrel bent to keep the ID continuous. I'll laser cut the flanges so I can revert back to oem when/if I sell the car.

Good luck getting one made, you are braver than me!

I've rarely seen that custom route end in anything good, hence why decent branded ones cost a fair bit more.

Plus if you are doing it for weight / performance, one made by a garage isn't going to do either of those very well!

If you just want oval ends buy some 04 tips.

Isn't supersprint a budget make?
not sure you will find a custom exhaust for less than £400..
What ID are you going for? There's a single on the for sale forum!

Supersprint is about £1100 if I remember right. I'm going to go for 2.5" from decat then split via a high flow y piece to 2". I wouldn't expect to get a decent exhaust made for 400 quid. I could make it myself as my company has made manifolds and exhausts for different racing cars but we're too busy to get involved with my toy. I would prefer to specify exactly what I want and get someone to make it cheaper than we could.
