This crap makes me chuckle. I like it when people spend stupid money on stuff and then slag people off that buy cheaper stuff that hasn't got an expensive name on it. far to many brand whores out there!

RICE is 2 things.

1. Opinion - and there is no clear definition.
2. My favourite food.

I prefer what I like to call the 'stealth' or 'sleeper' look with the exception of this little thing behind my front grill

What if it was covered in all sorts of cheap tat, stickerbombed to fook, and then had MF-10's? Would that make it ok??
Would still be better than a car with cheap and nasty Rotas

I haven't seen Ian's old car for a while but it had some good quality parts on it from what I remember.
Now there's a bias opinion

I wouldn't have MF10's because I don't like them, it's as simple as that. Just down to personal preference.

Just because they're Mugen does it make them less ricey than a set of ROTA's, in my opinion no.

If it's at a South Mimms car meet, it's probably ricey.

It is not because they are Mugen .... it is because they are forged, stronger, lighter and most importantly have the correct offsets for the car.

Mugens are an upgrade from OEM wheels, you can't say that about Rotas.

in my opinion the most 'ricer' thing you can do is a carbon bonnet and a massive spoiler.

I have both, I also don't consider 'ricer' to be an insult. I see it as a style of modification much like 'euro','hellaflush','murdered out' etc

Think some people are confusing it with chav.

This thread has opened a can of worms hasn't it! Okay, so being around the JDM market for around 10 years now and having been to Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan where the big mods are, I would like my own 0.02 on this. Rotas are indeed copies and though I personally would not ever own a set myself, I would say that nowadays especially it is on the upper end of the affordability budget to most people who would consider buying wheels as there are cheaper and lighter options around ie: Team Dynamics PS1.2, what makes me laugh is when kids turn around and tell me "those rims are genuine rotas" always will give me a chuckle or two! But for the price, I suppose it is affordable if you are willing to go for the JDM look. Whatever the case is, buying Rota is still more safer than buying an unknown brand who replicates genuine brands such as Volk. Now I am a bit of a wheel whore myself, and confess of owning some rather rare wheels, but not everyone will have the £2-4k+ budget to spank on some shoes, so in my opinion it's just another viable choice for the consumer.

Don't get rice mods confused with chav mods, and as much as I agree with a member on here stating that S2Ks don't need carbon bonnets, I would not agree if you were to say the same for example a DC2 (Integra Type R), I own a 99 JDM model as a daily driver and the bonnet on those cars are very heavy, so on some cars they do come in handy! Also I would like to point out that although wet carbon is cheaper they're not actually that much more lighter than the OEM product, to be a real CF enthusiast you would opt for the more expensive and less glossy look of Dry Carbon, that is where you will find the biggest difference and where CF originally got it's lightweight name.

Example of chav mods...very easy, lexus lights, aftermarket LED clusters, cannards stuck to bumpers in the wrong places (never did understand that), snap off steering wheel boss on a road car......and stickers....gosh do I hate that stuff, but each to it's own.
