Default Wheel Skimming

I have a set of forged wheels with a low offset.

I was thinking about skimming them 4mm, but when I measured the amount of material from the taper of the hole to the exit of the stud hole there is only 8mm to start with.

Is it too risky to skim 4mm, considering I will be taking these wheels on track.

Any advice on topic will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Here is a pic just to show you what I mean. Sorry for the rubbish drawing in paint. After the 8mm or 4mm that is the face that sits on the hub.

Also 8mm is an estimated measure there may be more or less material left ±1

I agree it does sound risky.

It was just in the back of my mind as a possibility. I never fully convinced myself about the procedure.

Think of it as removing 50% of the material.

Maybe 2mm, but not 4.

I may consider 2mm, but it will always be in the back of my mind.

I'm just interested as to what people think of the idea.

If I was using them on track I wouldn't skim 4mm even if I had 14 to start with,I suspect that they have been stress tested at the factory.

I know you doing enginnering degree so Why don't you draw your wheel in ProEngineer and run a FEA on it then you will know if they are strong enough.
