I know exactly what you mean but the trouble with fitting wide wheels up front is this usually happens

I will be rolling hte little dink out when i have a free afternoon.
Updated first post due to lots of questions I PM'd Rob, which he said he has had quite a few people asking recently so its probably better to get all the answers on a public thread
Bit of a Idea of what will fit.
With -3 rear camber.
17x8.5 et30 245/40/17 tyre
17x9 et35 245/40/17 tyre
17x9.5 et38 245/40/17 tyre
17x10 et48 255/40/17 tyre
With -2.5 rear camber
the above +5mm on the offset
example instead of 17x9 et35 / 17x9 et40
fronts with -2.2 to -2.5 camber
17x8 et30 215/45/17 tyre
17x8.5 et36 235/40/17 tyre
17x9 et42 245/40/17 tyre
You can go about 10mm Higher on the offset but any more and you'll be close to rubbing on full lock.
To do this you must do the basic arch modifications
roll the rear arches flat to the arch, relocate the bumper tab ( when you look up in the rear arch where the bumper screws to the arch, you need to cut a small section out and move the screw further back ), finally you need to trim the bumper down the bit where the tyre tread would hit.
Fronts you need to cut the arch liner back a little about 15cm from the arch edge. Roll the little tabs that stick out and flare the arch to 45 degree angle.
Hope this helps

Am I also right to think that I can put my current rear tyres on either of those no problem? What if I were to put my 215/45/17's on the front 17x8.25+35, from my OEM wheels? Would that just have a bit of a wall stretch or would I be better off getting a 225/45or40/17?
Sorry for so many questions, give me something mechanical to do and I'm fine but this is like a minefield to me!!
Problem with going lower than say et35 at the rear is the car ends up looking a bit odd as the inside of each tyre are so far apart from each other.
You could fit a 245/40 on a 8.25 but I imagine it will be a bit wallowy due to sidewall bulge.
Torque drifts 17x9 et35 all round would be good!
235 or 225 front tyre and 245 rear
