Default When people post threads already covered previously......

I have noticed that when new people to the community post a thread that has already been talked about, it doesn't take long for someone to say "Been covered months ago... ner ner ner , do a search!"

Don't know what other people think, but why should new comers spend all their time on here just using the search page? Why can't they cover a thread already been done? There will be different and new views on the matter, and also your own views may have changed since the original post.

TinTop's recent thread on 'What don't you like about the S?' is a good example. I couldn't be bothered to post because I thought it would end after the 3rd reply as he was told it has already been done.

Anyway, I'm off to don my flame suit and

especially given how cumbersome and difficult to use the search engine can be.

I try (not always successfully, I have to admit) to avoid as much as possible the temptation to tell new members that their question has been answered umpteen times before since we were all n00bs once and I'm not sure I'd have stuck around too long if I'd have got that kind of reception.

If I do say that, I try at least to link them to the FAQ, which covers lots of those frequently recurring questions, or to a thread which may be able to assist.

wiv MT and super squirrel

When I started on here I'm sure I asked a lot of non-challenging questions that the old timers had seen many times before but all answers were cool and often linked me to even more info either in FAQ or elsewhere.

Let's give the newbies, like pease, a chance.

Lee, this topic has been done before...

(*JOKE* )

Seriously though, with everything Mark said. I mean my first thread (IIRC) was about there being no clock in the S

I really don't mind them.

But if it's something that keeps coming up - I just don't bother replying to it.

There's no clock in the S?!?!?! I'm off to buy a Boxster, I hear they are bought primarily by people that like clocks. But I may have misheard that I guess.

But I kind of agree with Gaddafi. If as a newbie someone had politely pointed me at a place where something was covered before I'd have been grateful and it wouldn't have put me off posting crap like the above. If my question wasn't answered then I'd come back to my original question.

The problem is that when the same question gets asked over and over again, people might ignore the thread completely.

The search engine is hard work, so a quick pointer to the old thread is better than recovering the same old ground.

Now then, doesn't everyone agree that the S should have beaten that Z4 and Boxster on TG the other week, if only it had been dry and the Stig hadn't only just thrown away his L plates

with the 'telling them to do a search' bit. As I said, if it's been covered before, a pointer to the correct thread - either a link, or the "search for MCB and FASTER" approach that definately works.
