No need for a hardtop. My S never stays out of the garage long enough to need it in the winter.

No doubt about it though, the S definitely looks damn handsome with it on.

Very unique, quiet, warm, no blind spot, heated rear window, transforms the look of the car. These are just a few of the reasons.

In the US Honda offered a $500 discount on the hardtop in 2002.

I bought one because it makes the car less windy at well over 100mph on the racetrack for driving schools. Now that I have it I love how it transforms the car into something completely different than an S2000. The hardtop makes the car look longer than it is and the length appears in the hood. Wow does it ever look great!

Many think it is a waste of money and that is fine. For me I'm thrilled I have it. When people have to ask what the S2000 is with the top down, they have absolutely no clue what the car is with the hardtop on.

Thanks Alun, you've made my mind up.

My car is used daily and I'm always dropping the roof mid journey. The only months I could see the roof staying up would be Nov, Dec and Jan but having said that, what about roof down trips on sunny snowy days ?

Nah,

I find the S2000 soft top to be the best I've ever seen, especially with it being so fast to raise/lower. It would be nice if it folded away into the bodywork like the Boxster (I was pondering this as I VTEC'ed past one last night), I just can't be bothered with the tonneau cover

However, for me it would be that a hardtop gives the car a totally different look (even more stylish), although you can't drop the top at the first sign of clear weather.

I suppose it depends whether you like driving topless in anything other than sunny weather.

As hoped this post has generated some interesting comments ....

As they say "It takes two to make a market", and as commented it would be boring if we all had the same views/preferences.

Alun

PS I'm with Cedric on this one !

All kidding aside, if I had to park the car outside at night, I'd have a hard top on it like a shot. For those that have to leave the car out, the glass heated rear window must a boon as well. The hard top does look great without a doubt, it's just that for me the aggro of storing the damned thing and not being able to drop the top in six seconds if the whim takes me defeats a lot of the purpose for which I bought it.

It's also fair to say that I hardly ever leave the car unattended in circumstances where I have to worry about security unduly. Sad isn't it?

We are very lucky with the S2000 that the soft top works so well - it is quick to put up and down, and (so far) doesn't leak in the rain.

I used to have an Alfa Romeo Spider, and I wish the same was the case of this piece of intriguing automotive engineering! The roof leaked, the roof broke, and when it did work (which wasn't very often) it took about 30 seconds to put the roof down and up.

Because of my experience with the Spider, I chose to buy the GT.

I have been on business in Paris this week, and so had to leave my car at the airport. Naturally I don't really want my roof slashed, and then me not knowing about it for a couple of days - what with the weather at the moment I could see my beloved S2k filling up with water while I was away! So, I put the hard top on. Job done.

There are many benefits for the hard top, and yes some disadvantages too.

I suppose at the end of the day it depends on individual circumstances.

Oh, and I'm definitely not a poofter.

Alex.

I have ordered a hardtop for my MCB due Sept/Oct
and personally think that on those days when it is
hissing down with rain or just plain miserable that
the hardtop will be worth every penny.

As much as I used to love the spontaneity of dropping
the softtop on my 1974 MGB when the weather turned,
it could still be a pain in the asp when the weather was not
so clever.

Molly.
