Default Winter Tyres

Morning All

I am contemplating the option of winter Tyres for my S over a second car but am unsure if using winter tyres on my OEM 17s is the way forward or is it better to buy a new set of 16's from Ebay or on here?

I assume that the thinner the better on the winter tyres as my Misses old Starlet (on mountain bike wheels) was unstopable last winter, even used it to drag my old motor up a frozen hill.

any help greatly appreciated

thanks

Paul

FWD cars are far better in the snow, we found that out during the last cold snap. The wife's T reg Focus was unstoppable!

Getting another set of cheap wheels is the way to go, stick some winter tyres on and the car will be much safer

I'd go for the 16s. Cheaper tyres too

16s have a higher profile so that WHEN you smack it off a kerb, you're only bouncing the tyre wall and not the rim. Never mind the potholes etc etc etc.

One thing to consider is the impact of the winter roads on your car. I've run mine through three winters and the degradation of it's condition is significant. So significant that this year I've opted for a small FWD beater.

IMHO if you are fortunate enough to be in a position to buy and run a beater, that is what you should do.

here we go again...
never had an issue with front grip, only rear traction when pulling away. once moving, i'm fine on summer tyres.

i'll await flaming like the last thread when i mentioned it.
