Default Wonky Steering

Went to Liverpool in the S yesterday to watch the Honda Powerboats
The roads in Liverpool are ing crap. Probably because all the scallys nick the tarmac before it sets (sorry for going along with the stereotype !)

When leaving I noticed the steering wheel wobbling slightly to the left, the car is now pulling under braking to the left and wobbling at anthing up to 30 mph still does it above this speed but it is less noticable.

It can't be the wheel balancing because it's too pronounced, and kwik fit said so
The manager at kwik fit told me that he didn't want to look at the problem and that he wouldn't fit any tyres to my wheels

So any ideas ?

Current favourite is that the nearside tyre is knackered, it certainly looks in bad shape.
So what do I replace the front two with ? Currently thinking of going with Toyo Proxes T1-R. Any thoughts or alternatives ????

Whats the opinion on the Eagle F1's similar price to the Toyo's so any thoughts ?

Is it likely to be the tyre causing the problem ???

If it's pulling under braking it's unlikely to be the tyre, unless the pressures are wrong. Could be one side is partially seized caliper ot cause hte pulling but not the wobbling. I'd stoab a guess at Geo/tracking/alignment.

My 2P;
If the tyres knackered change em both (to Yokohama's! )
It that doesn't sort it do the geo/tracking/alignemet.

BTW
I'm having mine redone Friday FOC cos the stealer could not prove they had done it last time!

I wouldn't discount wheel balance...a very out of balance wheel can be horrendous but it shouldn't make it pull to one side - thats likely to be a sticky calliper - but it can happen on an uneven road surface...

Do you use your car a lot? if the discs get rusty because the car isn't used much (or if its just rained for a couple of days...) then you might get a pull as the rust comes off....

Try to find a smooth, level, non diesel covered piece of road (difficult I know) and brake a few times & feel what it does. If the vibration stops at a certain speed then I would still suspect the balance is out - but that can be attributed to the tyres being worn. Its amazing how many tyre fitters don't know how to use the balance machine properly. Also make sure your balance weights are still on the wheel (stick on weights should be used, not the nasty hammer on ones). If the wheel surface isn't cleaned before sticking on the weights, sooner or later they will come off.

If it pulls to the left on braking, suspect the RHS calliper sticking off & look at that side. Wheel off, clean with brake cleaner spray try again. If its the LHS calliper sticking on the steering will constantly pull and the wheel will get very hot.
