Which are worst?
I often keep a look out for unmarked police cars, one good to spot one is extended wing mirrors on most as they now have lights in them.
They do drive around in some odd cars, skoda estate in green on M11 cambridge to standsted and then a silver mondeo from standsted to M25 start.
Don't not think it should be allowed as some have trapped drivers into driving faster.

I know there are ways of spotting them as mentioned but the irony of that statement made me laugh

Anyway, wot C7ble said
(about cameras/cars, not beancounters with a Power Ranger fetish. Well, that as well actually)

something that has happened to me and a tactic I have observed
I'm wise to it now
mirrors mirrors mirrors!!!
watch for the car that you overtook a few seconds ago pull out and start to pace you
that's how it starts - far more often than them chasing you from a standing start
I think unmarked cars are much better than speed cameras - but I would say that as I'll be driving an unmarked car this afternoon
You would be amazed at just how much discretion you will - generally - get from the driver of an unmarked car as opposed to a speed camera ..... unless of course you are driving like a clown on your mobile.

Cameras have their place - there is one on the A road between M40 and MK, can't remember the name of the road, just by a nasty junction. It forces people to slow down (they either know its there or see it) to try to make the junction safer.
Generally though a marked/unmarked car is better picking people up for driving standards etc.

Does anyone end up looking out for these unmarked police cars?
Reason I say this is that a lot of them seem to drive Vectra's or Omega's. When I see an Omega cruising on the M1 in the slow or middle lane I can't help but think that maybe its an unmarked police car! Or maybe I'm just getting paranoid

I still slow down when I see a car with HIDs.

A situation where this wasn't the case is on the A56 in Timperley-some old guy got knocked down and died at a speed camera location-the coroner said the speed camera was a cause of the accident as the driver had momentarily taken concentration off the road and towards their speedo. As a result the camera was removed.
I am led to beleive thet no more speed cameras are to be introduced until the Govt has reviewed them.

Saw a new red mondeo (I think) estate on the Herts stretch of the A1M yesterday, just two blue lights in its rear window. Had pulled some guy over and was giving him the full treatment from the look of it. Which are worst? At least cameras are visible and in known locations.
I must admit I'm paranoid about unmarked cars, there's a lot on the M11, and yes mainly Omega types
Camera's used for the right reasons in the right place work - there's no denying that.
So unmarked cars?
Well last week I would have said
But on Wednesday I encountered one
Came off the M62 J8 headed round the roundabout going south to Widnes. As it comes off the roundabout and opens up to NSL dual carriage way I nailed. Before I knew it I was VTECing in 3rd ready for 4th
Some 300 metres back a black Vectra pulls out from the queue of traffic I just blasted past and some lovely blue lights start flashing on the grill.

I slow up with out using the brakes so it doesn't look like I know I'm driving like I stole it
He eventually catches up and pulls along side.
I'm already calculating the fine and insurance costs, whilst looking for a safe spot to pull in
He waves at me and gestures for me to slow down. I nod obligingly and carry on at the NSL.
Phew!
Funny thing is all the muppets I blasted past now catch up and tail gate him
One donkey even tried to undertake him
Lucky escape from a plod that either didn't properly clock my klepton range or was sympathetic to Vtec
The Moral - its all a risk
