Our local councillors are pondering the idea of making our 60 mile road into a permanent 30mph zone. It won't happen, but I wonder what would be the result of running the S2000 at no more than 30mph for the rest of its life.

Anyone?

Nothing because the engine will still rev through the gears.

30mph would kill the Arran Meets.

A lot of the roads over there are pretty bumpy and, if you've got a passenger, going much over 40 isn't very comfortable. Sure there are a couple of spots where you can let rip, but that's not what the roads on Arran are about. A 40 or 50 limit outside of villages would be okay in my book.

I can see where the councillor is coming from as there are loads of walkers and families on bikes during the summer. With so many blind bends, and a high probability of an obstruction on your side of the road, you can find yourself in some sticky situations.

I remember hooning round the island in my mother's Polo in my teens and having a few moments. Thankfully no actual incidents but it taught me a lesson just to take it easy.

Hmmm.. they blame the drivers for everything. Usually it's down to cyclists riding 37 abreast, or walkers wanting to set their tripod up on the white line in the middle of the road because there's 'something that looks like an otter' but turns out to be a bit of wood.

Shisky, parts of the A841 Brodick to Lochranza are being resurfaced. It's much better now.

The result would be a monumental waste!

Probably lots of carbon build up in rings/plugs and the like since the engine may not get hot enough to burn them off. Kind of depends how driven though. Lower the loading generally the cooler the engine is running (less energy overall being generated)
