Question Yet another bent S

Well, I guess it was my turn last night. All my fault. Came out of a corner way too hard on the gas, lost control and drove the S right over the highway median at around 40 mph.

Air bags deployed, front left wheel that took the brunt of the impact is dished and the tyre went down. Was able to drive it back the short distance home before noticing the tyre was down - except for the massive pull to the left it caused, which I just assumed was bent out of shape suspension stuff.

I had a look this morning and can't see too much in terms of other damage, but for sure there will be stuff wrong under there.

Stupid stupid stupid.

I will take it to the garage later to see what the real damage is. Not too sure if to even think of claiming for anything, I am not sure stupidity is on the list of things covered. Dunno what to do with the air bags though - any suggestions?

Sorry to hear that mate

I think airbag replacement is going to be expensive.

Here's one on eBay

Good luck with the repairs.

Insurance maybe the best option when looking at suspension damage and airbags but good luck anyway.. Jim

Thanks. Will have to look around for stuff once I know all that is damaged. That Ebay item only ships to the UK though, but there must be others out there.

Well, the car is at the alignment shop. Had a look at it on the lift. Nothing bent or broken, no body damage, just the front left wheel which can be repaired. The left alignment is off - but looks like just be the various geo axis moved with the impact. Will only know when they actually get it up for alignment.

So the worst so far seems to be the air bags deployment and the seat belts are stuck - they can't be pulled in or out so I guess there is some locking mechanism that comes into effect when the airbags deploy. All told though, it seems I may get off "easy" on this one.

Does anyone have access to part numbers for the air bag modules and computer? That would be both driver and passenger. Thanks in advance for any info on this.

I am really sorry about the incident and i am really sorry to tell you the bad news. The belts have a sensor too which is connected to the airbags module ECU. If the airbags are deployed then the belts are deployed too which means you have to change both of them. So from what i understand you will need drivers airbag, passengers airbag, SRS ECU module and the 2 seat belts. I did found some of the part numbers. I will look at another database I have in my home

Thanks a lot Chris. I really appreciate this info. These cars aren't sold here (this one was a special order) so I am not getting any joy from the local Honda dealer.

Sorry to hear it Trinis.

Have you worked out exactly what you did wrong yet? Overcorrection or just way OTT? Forgot to let go of the wheel? It's an expensive way to learn, I'm afraid.

Anyway, I think airbags & seat belt pretensioners are expensive. They're now saying it will be a problem with classic cars, because they need replacing after 15 years.

You might be able to obtain second hand ones from a breakers. Only RTFM about disconnecting them first, if you're gonna DIY. There's a special procedure IIRC.
