Default Yet another stolen Cat

The b$startds stole the Cat at 1am this morning.

I've read a few of the recent posts where those more knowledgeable than me know what's needed, or at least have a mechanic that knows. We don't have either so would appreciate a few pointers.

1. Is it driveable, it's currently parked on my neighbors drive and would like to move it 10 ft back to our drive? I did start it and it sounds like a tank.
2. Anybody recommend a garage in West London (Uxbridge) that has the knowledge to deal with this?
3. The consensus appears to be get it fixed by buying 2nd hand parts but that could take ages, I'm tempted to contact the insurance company but fear it being written of. It's a 2006 BB with only about 47k on it so lots of life left.
4. Could I use the AA the trailer it as it's not road worthy?

Thanks for any advice
Mick

i would not drive it far to be honest

needs looking at to be assessed really to see where they cut any local exhaust fabrication place will be able to sort it out otherwise like you say buying oem / copy parts and waiting for delivery

more than likely they cut the manifold flange off and rear section flange aswell

i would go to a local fab place weld on some flanges to whatever they chopped and a copy cat from tegiwa

Yes, it's driveable a short distance.

My experience with my insurer AXA (my PREVIOUS insurer, now), was that they write off anything over 10 years old. Although they misinformed me about it first, and put me through a lot of palaver. Other people have told stories of getting their insurers to pay for it but only with a constant back and forth that took a few months. I'd just pay for this myself.

I did mine for 500 quid using mostly 2nd hand parts and a local garage, but bear in mind they ended up welding a cheap cat to my rear exhaust section, and that the price of 2nd hand exhaust manifolds has since gone through the roof. I paid 90 quid for a 2nd hand exhaust manifold, but now look! 400 to 500 smackers.

Mine happened about 20 months ago, and now I keep the car garaged. I can have a look back see what I purchased if that helps, but really in your position you need a good friendly garage (not a dealer) to handle it for you. I'm in Essex so can't help with experience of West London. Just bear in mind with current prices 2nd hand parts it's looking more like a grand to fix now. Still worth it on a car worth at least 10K, or more, which I imagine yours must be.

My advice if you live in London, get a gun, a garage or decat it
The law is failing you

Thanks for all the replies,

I think for £1k I'd go for it just to avoid the potential stress with the insurance company, finding a competent garage is another thing. I presume decat requires a cat to be inserted at MOT time, which would be a hassle as I don't have the skills or space to do it.

I'll find a garage and get a report on what's been butchered.

I've just found out from a near neighbour that their Lexus Hybrid was done at the same time, he saw them doing it and shouted down, they then taunted him to come down. Apparently one had a baseball bat and this guy's got a 4 month old baby....so what can you do....yes the law is letting us down.

Read in our local paper today that one the near ‘park and ride’ car parks - a multi storey- is being targeted by cat thieves, don’t think they are patrolled at night so the c***s will have as much time as they need, and of course P&R are on the edge of town.

Thanks all,

I'm happy to put this back on the road at our expense, does the sports Cat also attract the scumbags or are they just as valuable. I've read a few posts (not on here) where they have lost 2 Cats in a short period.

Jayc, that's pretty soul destroying. My neighbour told me of a colleague at school where they drove into the school car park, stole her Cat...in the middle of the school day.
