Default Yoko A048R initial thoughts

Got my Yokohama A048R's fitted today at Oulton and will be running these for a month or so as my road tyre as well as a track tyre. Becuase of light rain I ran the RE050's for my first two sessions. The fronts were well past their best, but the rears were ok.

I then put:

215/45/17 on the front in the M compound
245/40/17 on the MH compound

Firstly I've still not got the pressures set as I'd like. I've had to run the rears at 26psi hot, at 32 they were drift-tastic, which wasn't what I wanted! running the fronts at 32psi as that seems ok for them.

The fronts are great. better turn in, far less understeer.

The rears I'm not happy with. Running at 26psi seems wrong, but if it's what's required I'll stick with it. The rear seems FAR less grippy than the fronts, but you can only get them in the MH compound which isn't as soft. Because I'm fighting the rear even more than before, I don't think they're necessarily any quicker. But this is on my current road geo. A trip to Chris is on the cards I think.

On the road, they're noticeably noisier, and tramline a lot more than the RE050's. I'll report back after a wet day. Which as it's britain, won't be long.

Are they not the same as PJL's?

Rears are, fronts aren't. He's using the 225 LTS (lotus) compound.

Also his suspension is completely different to mine.

Chilled I run with the AO48 but with MH all round.

The problem you have is the far softer compound you are running on the front. There are 2 compounds in the AO48 range and the M is equivalent to the old AO32 range in "super soft to soft"

Do you know how the LTS compound fits in?

If anything, PJL with his front camber and MY00 should have a more oversteery car. So I'm guessing the LTS compound is closer to the MH.

Hi Mark
After reflecting on your antics with Tyre Pressure & then analysing my own Tyrres at the end of play yesterday - the consensus is that I too need to drop my pressure (I've not looked at them so far - even I've run them for the last 18th Months !) - Pos need to get Chris (COG) to advise further

May I suggest, that now that you are running the Yokohamas - you should look to 'Stiffen / Strengthen' the car to compensate for the additional forces that the Tyres now allow you to put through the vehicle - this will then enable you to exploit the Tyres / Car further !

Cheers
Peter

I'm definitely going to get stiffer ARB's and shocks at some point. And may even go for the ARB's before rockingham now I've had a thought about my finances.

How easy is fitting an ARB?

sounds like a massive money pit to me!

I have never been entirely convinced with whether you are better to just spend the money and get a sorted road and track car (or one of each) or if there is much merit in upgrading bits and pieces as you go...

Exige anyone?

Sorry, i am drifting off topic here.

Nope, you're not drifting off topic at all.

Other than the Cusco front brace, I've changed nothing that isn't disposable.

I would rather have an Exige S. But they're still not less than
