Default Airbag Deactivation Switch?

I'm trying everything possible to keep the S2000 and not have to buy some heavy, boring four seater. So, I'm thinking of getting a passenger airbag deactivation switch, so that I can occasionally drive my toddler. (Please save the debate on the merits of doing this for another thread.)

I was referred to Redline Automotive in Roselle from www.airbagonoff.com who will do this for only $325, but the shop has just got awful reviews on the web.

Is there anyone else that can do it in Chicagoland? A dealership perhaps?

Thanks in advance for your help.

honda no longer makes the switch and wants us to remove them from all cars. they are paying 100.00 to remove them. they dont say why they are doing this but im guessing they got sued.

I don't understand, don't they automatically deactivate on MY06+ because a todler doesn't meet the minimum weight? You can always get yourself a newer S.

Back from the grave... I'm looking to get this done on an '01 and www.airbagonoff.com was bought by aoielectrical.com. They won't sell the switch outright, only through an installer. Grrr.

J5sense, I don't recall anything about Honda ever making a switch. Or were you referring to aftermaket?

That's got to be for liability issues so they can't be sued if you install it incorrectly. I can't say I can fault them for that, too many people sue for shits & giggles these days.

Absolutely.

Here's an update.
a) I found out Honda did make a switch and then did stop selling it.
b) I found a reseller of the switch: http://www.electronix.com/universal-passen...ch-p-20433.html
c) I then found the same switch on eBay for $90 less:Item number: 190400702573

Needless to say I bought it. I read the instructions from the first link and it's VERY straight forward. The maker is Airbag Solutions which is now defunct but the switch is the same AOI Electrical switch in the first link and 100% NHTSA approved. Yay! Now my boy can go to NC with me.

Let me know how the install goes, I'm interested. I've got 2 little girls that I'd like to be able to drive around, safely.

If I were you I'd spend that $29.99 now. The instructions are simply cut one wire and T off of another plus grounding one more.

I've had my switch purchased from and installed by Creative Controls in Sterling Heights, which is a bit more local to you than Chicago.

I found that it's an odd business. It took me a while to get around to doing it, and I was chasing the same guy all over the Detroit metro area; he kept changing jobs, and usually, whatever shop he worked at stopped doing these installs when he left. So I made the appointment with him at Creative Controls, but when I got there, he had left again! It turns out they install airbag switches all the time, though, so I decided to stay there. Their primary business is modifications for people with special physical needs, and airbag deactivation is part of that business. I think they do more driver's side deactivation that passenger's side.

Anyway, give them a call if you're interested in having it done.
