Man having to pay that much for parking is one of the reasons I bought out in the suburbs instead of the city. But that's another topic in itself(As I do plan to move to the city when funds permit). Welcome to Chicago. You're best bet is going to be craiglist. I know there are some garages in the city that have monthly parking at decent prices. But even then its still like $150-175. But those are rather scarce.

i agree, check out craigslist - http://chicago.craigslist.com...found my spot there for $135/month. i also agree about living a little farther north...lincoln park, lakeview, etc. the loop pretty much shuts down at night; only a few clubs in that area and not many bars. LP and lakeview have much more of a "neighborhood" feel to it; i'd suggest looking there if you haven't signed a lease yet. then again, if your apt is next door to work that ain't bad either; you can always just take the L to go out around the city.

One of my co-workers lives out in the Wriglegville and he commutes to work on Metra (our office is in the Des Plaines; suburb of Chicago)
i also live in wrigleyville and commute to des plaines! but i drive my S every day. not that bad...maybe 45-50 minutes each day. i'm pretty lazy and don't like making the effort to get to the metra stop. oh, and the S is pretty fun to drive!

Where will you be working? Is it near a subway stop?

Hey man, we should think about a car pool....

When I drive in, I generally leave around 6:30, and get to work around 7. If I leave a half hour later, it takes a full half hour longer to get to work.

Afternoons, I leave anywhere from 5-6:30.

I work between Rand Rd and Northwest Highway, just south of Golf.

Any of that jive with your schedule?

When I take the Metra, I generally catch the Irving Park Express bus (X80) out to the stop adjacent to the Blue Line - Irving Park stop.... or have my girlfriend drop me off there. Then I take the Metra to Cumberland (short walk from there). There's also Metra stop in downtown Des Plaines on NW Hwy near the library.

$1800 for insurance is a lot, when I had my S and was 22 I was paying 1150 and I thought it was a little much.

The Elevated Subway? Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron?

I called it the subway for 23 years.... I'm going to keep calling it the subway. And I'm going to get all of Chicago saying it!

I was on the phone with a friend of mine in NY when I was walking under the Addison Red Line stop, and I said: "Hold on, I can't hear you... a subway train is going over my head now."

"What?!? Are you underground, man?" was the response.

also, how do you make it here in 30 minutes?! which way do you take? i think the only times i've ever made it in 30 minutes were when there was absolutely no traffic, and i took 90 -> 294 -> dempster.

[QUOTE=Racing_Chris,Feb 8 2006, 09:14 AM]For me, there is no force on Earth that could get me to move out of the city into the burbs.... except maybe kids, one day.
