Default Fender bender....

A soccer mom backed her SUV (Navigator) into my parked S2000.

Thankfully she has good insurance.

Damage is minimal but still annoying. I'll post some pics soon.

I'm calling on the Chicagoland crew to give me some suggestions on a good body shop!

Also any advice on what I should do as far as the claim goes? The adjuster told me that I could get an estimate at any shop I want. The shop would then take pictures and send it to American Family Insurance. Upon approval, they would cut a check.

The other option is going with one of their approved shops. The agent said that if I took it to their "approved" shop, the work would be guaranteed for the life of my car.

So now it comes down to finding a reputable body shop. Any advice would be appreciated!

I thought I was the only one who got backed into?
At least the woman didn't take off like the ass who hit me.

It's a hike for you, but I have used Huntley Autobody in the past with excellent results.

Stay away from Nationwide Autobody. They do not honor their warranty.

That is all.

If your door was bent in, make sure you argue for a whole new door and don't get just a door skin replacement. I can take you through the many items of why a re-skinned door is a no-no, and the only way to go is get a full door replacement.

If your door wasn't touched and only your fender was hit, make sure you get a good look at your wheel. It's hard to not hit the wheel if your door wasn't touched. If there are scuffs and scratches on the wheel, make sure you tell the bodyshop you take the car to that you want your wheel RE-FINISHED by the Wheels America people in Elk Grove. Too many body shops just find a wheel vendor that will trade out the body shop a re-furbished wheel for your damaged wheel. Too many times they get the wrong wheel color (yes, there are different wheel colors for the 16" wheels). Make sure you let them know that you want to see the Wheels America invoice.

BTW -- There is a guy selling two fenders on the for-sale forum right now. You and ChicagoS2k could get them and split the package. He needs a passenger side, and you need a drivers side.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip but since her insurance is paying for it I guess it isn't really in my best interest to save them money right? If they are willing to pay for new ones why not?

Any other suggestions on a good body shop?

well yeah, but the insurance company will cut you a check. you wont be saving THEM money, but why not save yourself some money??? Get some excellent condition used fenders for half the cost of new and pocket the difference!

btw...I second the vote for HCC in Huntley
