Front License Plate Ticket
After years of driving the S without a front license plate, I finally received my first ticket yesterday. It was at Golf and Waukegan. The cop was waiting inside the Infiniti dealer. I was driving West, he saw me top down, as soon as I crossed Waukegan, his patrol lights went on. I pulled over, he came up, and I asked what is my violation. $30.00 for a Compliant ticket. If paid after 10 days, it becomes $50.00. No points taken. So, in other words, my front license plate is on for now.
In an cost-benefits analysis, catching a raper, murderer, and thieves is cash-outflow generator, with no hope of revenue return.
You see, it takes much effort to catch one of those types of criminal violators. Things like investigation, getting warrants, analyzing evidence, getting professional opinion, violator apprehension, holding a violator, prosecuting a violator, jailing the violator (includes the associated costs of cleaning his sh!t, feeding him, clothing him, etc), etc. all cost money. There's little or no hope of that type of criminal bringing the state any kind of revenue. That's $0/hr.
On the other hand, finding, stopping, ticketing, and prosecuting someone that doesn't use their front plate will result in $30 or more each stop if the criminal doesn't fight the ticket. A 20 minutes stop results in at least one $30 of revenue. That's about $90/hr of revenue.
From a business perspective, which would you choose? Don't worry about choosing the license plate violator. Chances are good that the raper, murderer, and/or thieve also runs without a front plate, speeds, or had expired registration. We'll get him in the pocketbook for those offenses.

....or maybe the logic is that if everyone ran with a front plate, those would do more damage when said rapist/murderer/thief were to run in front of a vehicle whilst fleeing the scene.
Not like thats their job description and basic duty or anything is it??

...I'm not arguing that those aren't apart of the job description, but I'm willing to bet that "uphold city ordinance" is apart of it as well.
Upholding city ordinance brings in revenue for the city/town/village. Upholding a law regarding rape, murder, or thievery is a federal mandate. Do what's best for the city....in this case, bring in revenue. Let the federal enforcement bring in the federal violators.

Urmil, I totally agree with you, I'm just playing devil's advocate....remember I come from a country thats all about raising revenue and raping the motorist.
how else can you explain certain roads with speed cameras every 1/4 mile?? Has nothing to do with anything else other than putting money in the pockets of the local pd fund.
Sadly...I can only see that the US will go more the way of the UK...the cameras have already started in chicago.

I had an option of going to court and fight it but I figured, $30.00 was not worth my time. Yes, I did give the excuse that my bracket was at home broken (it is actually in my trunk and ready to be installed) but he still gave me the compliance ticket. Again, needless to say, I will have my front license plate on for now. I guess, in the future, when I take my license plate out again, I get pulled over, I pay the $30.00 fine. By the way, my daily driver (Forester) has a broken license plate holder on the brush guard. It has been years since I had front plate but never got pulled over. Prior to that, my daily driver is a 93 Celica convertible that never had front license plate installed (Florida car) but I never got pulled over for front plate violation. I figured since the S is a high profile car, I will most likely get pulled over for no plates than my Forester or my Celica.
