Default Front Plates in Chicago Area?

I bought my car new with no trade, so they gave me the cardboard temp plate for the rear. Still waiting for the new plates to come in. In the meantime I have totally fallen in love with the "naked" front of the car. What are Chicagoans experience with running without a front plate. I am out in the NW 'burbs. I park overnight in the garage, and really only take her out on weekends. Anyone know what the punishment really is now?

It's usually a small fine, about $25 or so. It's not a moving violation, so no points on the license. I've run without plates on all my cars for years and have very infrequently been bothered with it. In my opinion, the $75 in fines I've gotten in the last 5 years is worth the naked front end, and the protection from radar/laser that not having a front plate provides.

Some people do, some people don't. I guess it depends on if you plan on getting pulled over for speeding on a semi-frequent basis.

I doubt a cop will stop you just because of the missing front plate, but if he gets you for something else it would be very easy to add a ticket for his quota for this "offense".

I have gotten tickets for just having my car parked on the street without a front plate. After 4 of them I put the plate on. The chicago traffic police should be part of the axis of evil in my book.

Yes, this is true. On the streets of Chicago you'll get these tickets as part of the regular parking sweep (and no city sticker, even if you live outside the city). However this won't happen in the Northwest suburbs.

You may get pulled over by a Schaumburg cop though just for the plate. It happened to me twice in the same week by the same cop in the same spot. He let me go the second time when I complained at him about it.

No front plates for me. Since I hardly drive the S, no tickets yet. Also, my other cars do not have front license plates. Since we are in this topic, has anyone found anything to cover the two holes in-front?

Thanks. I'll be looking for those plugs when I get home. If I do not find them, I'll try to see if the dealer can give me a set. Otherwise, I am going to have to buy them.
