Default GChambers Banned!

I noticed today that GChambers was banned. I searched for his posts and did not see any reason - especially since his "nonconforming" opinions were shared by others who were not banned. I suppose we are all at the mercy of those who run this board... IMO - it is an injustice.

See for yourself...

Why did Geoff get banned? He did not even make the negative comment in the second thread, he just agreed with it. How come the person who made the comment didn't get the boot?

GChambers was someone I've met in person at WTD and he's also bought things from me. He's also vouched for me as a seller in some of my threads. I had also looked forward to seeing him and his wife at the next dragon event.

So that said, don't think that I have something against him or something like that.

I don't know the whole story, and even if I did I couldn't share it. All I can say is that in all my years of admin'ing and moderating, people always question the actions when they may not know the entire story. I don't know what went on, but there could be more going on than you know. Fanning the flames is never a good thing when a member is attacked. And that's regardless of whether it's a moderator, admin, or regular member.

let me give you a quick example. On 7thgen we had a guy who was a regular member, never caused trouble. However, he had a "2nd name" that he'd use to start crap and basically act like a troll. After while we simply banned both the names. People got up in arms as to why we just "banned" this guy, never knowing that our IP checks showed they were the same person.

Again, the point being you may not know the entire story.

Just offering another point of view.

In the weeks leading up to this it seems that there have been a rash of people being banned for little or essentially no reason.

For example there appears to be some issue in the Ohio forum relative to Shedrivesit being banned.

I think the GChambers situation shows that some folks who get a little "power" in the form of being an administrator or a moderator in n internet forum, wield it in an arbitrary and capricious manner.

I'm a relatively new member here, and I must say I'm starting to get a feeling that this place has a bit of a "it's our ball so we'll leave and go home" mentality, which I guess is their right, but just like the kid who did that on the playground, fewer and fewer people will want to associate with that kid.

Bottom line -- this is not the only place to discuss S2000.

This strikes me as an odd statement. If someone is banned for something they said in a forum, why would it be "confidential"?

I read the thread that includes the "bye bye" comment by cthree (apparently signalling that GChambers would be banned, and it strikes me that someone (cthree) got a bit peeved, and out of anger, decided to ban someone simply because they could:

"GChambers you bore me, bye bye and say hi to duderick for me."

If there is more to the story, I guess I'd like to know. It sounds like this has something more to do with a "duderick" than GChambers.

I've met GChambers a few times since we are both in the Indy area, but I am new to the S2000 community, so, before you assume that I am just an old pal of GChambers since we live in the same town, and therefore immediately discount my comments, please understand that I can count on one hand the time's I've talked to GChambers in the few months that I have owned my S2000.

As a new member I am seeing some things that make me wonder what is going on.

I've never met any of the people who run this site, including cthree, so all I can do is react to what is made public.

For example, in addition to the frequent instances of people being banned, new members or guests who ask a relatively common question get flamed for it, often by the people who moderate or administer the site. These are the new, enthusiastic people who were just like the people who run this place a few years ago. Instead of a welcome and a kindly reminder that there is a search function etc. (which is what I recall seeing just a few months ago) in recent times they immediately get flamed and scolded. Name calling seems to be OK for the administrators and folks who run the place, but not tolerated in response. (e.g., Cthree's "Wow. idiots").

I do not run this place and I have no idea what that sort of endeavor it entials, and perhaps Cthree or others have reacted in a manner that is appropriate but is not apparent to me, so I have restrained myself from commenting on some of this until now. However, since I did give those who run this place some money to be a "member" I assume the folks who run this place might want to know how this looks to a relatively objective, new person -- just my $.02

I guess if people do not like the decision you can start your own forum. This is not a democracy, this is owned by Cthree.

This is why I am a *Guest* and not a member.

Karwath, great points.

I did not claim this was or should be a democracy. I acknowledged that its a privately-owned endeavor.

But even as a profit making endeavor for CThree, or whoeverm it strikes as odd, to me, as someone who just got an S2000, and just paid to be a "member" how it appears things are being run with such caprice and quite frankly animous. It's as if this is being run by the soup nazi on Seinfeld, quite frankly!

It really does not make sense to me as a new person, and I thought it might be worth noting that. That's all.

The haste in which people are scolded, banned (or told to leave or "go start their own forum", which now includes me, gee thanks) seems to be odd.

I guess there is more to all of this vitriol and harsh feelings than I, as a new person, fully understand or appreciate.

Oh well, it was just $30.00.
