Default Going for a ride on May 3rd?

Well, I think I'll be taking the car down to Texas the weekend of the 10th. So with that in mind, is anyone interested in some kind of group drive/meeting the weekend before? A quick glance at the Tribune's event calendar tells me that the "Tulip Time Festival" in Holland, MI starts on the 3rd ("Scrubbed streets and six million blooms").

I figure it's about three hours each way, leisurely cruising speed, or maybe a bit longer if you took some side roads along Lake Michigan. One could make a day of it; drive up in the morning, have lunch in Michigan, smell the roses, uhm, tulips and get back to Chicago in the evening. Not that I am a flower fanatic, but it's as good a destination as any.

Or alternatively we could drive out west to The Field Of Dreams. Probably the same distance, and if you followed the old Lincoln Highway, you could get a pretty scenic route.

Anyone?

May 3 is open for me. Maybe we could go the direct route on the way there and drive some alternative routes on the way back. If the weather is bad, we could also have a plan B. It's about time we had a group drive. That would be a nice send off for you and a good kick off for some summer S2Ki fun.

Well, depending on whether we drive west or east, I am sure that can be arranged.

Right now it looks like there is a solid majority for driving west, though.

Well, as solid as can be given that three people have voted.

I would like to change my vote to "go west". Greg Stevens and I did a run to Galena on hwy 20 that was a lot of fun a few years ago. After you get to the Galena area, there are some really good twisties around Chestnut Mountain resort. Just a suggestion.

Aw man....I'm going down to Louisville that week for the Kentucky Derby! You're welcome to come with Ulrich if you don't have enough turnout for this. Louisville is pretty neat if you've never been down there.....kinda hilly compared to Chicago...and nice women!

As long as you don't confuse the women with the horses... Oops, did I say that out loud?

Are you driving down there? That might indeed be an alternative. So far the uptake has been slack at best.

I just found out about the 12th annual Auburn Spring Motorfair in Auburn, Indiana the weekend you were talking about looking at the flowers. As a dedicated car guy, I would rather look at a bunch of cars readied for auction than to look at flowers. About the same driving distance. Not as neat of a drive as going to the Mississippi. But another alternative just the same.
