I definitely support this, but the only point I'd like to make is that when it comes time to actually have them installed, you might not want others present. You generally want the location of the unit inaccessible and hidden.

I'd be in for a lojack checkup/maintenance.

Although isnt there a better alternative to lojack?

A guy on the Evo forum was trying to put together something local for the Chicago area folks since Evos keep getting stolen. You might want to try and get in touch with him. I'm considering it for my Evo if I decide to throw any more money at it.

Yes, there is. Plus with LoJack in the S2000, there's VERY limited space to hide the unit pieces: under dash to limited areas, engine bay (again, limited to certain areas because of exposure to elements and heat cycling), in fenders, trunk/roof well area.

There are systems out there that basically assign an IP address to your car and can track location, movement, avg. speed, etc. whenever a wireless network is found. These systems can also be tied to the mobile network as well, so when activated, they'll accept an incoming 'call' and start broadcasting a location until they are 'hung-up' on. My cars have these systems; they are far superior in size, quality, and reliability.

There are systems out there that are a monitoring-subscription based, a 'pay-on-activation' basis, and lump payment (but still need to pay a monthly line charge).

Can you make a recommendation?

I know there are some ppl using a cheap smart phone with data plans, they hard wire them to constantly being charged and hide them and use a gps app to track.

I have also come across this, for the price it's not to bad. http://www.proofpronto.com/escort-bl...s-tracker.html

The systems I have on my S2000s are active systems that watch the location they are locked into when I arm the system. They go into silent alarm mode if the car has been moved without disarming the system. Best of all, they aren't tied to the ecu.

They arm/disarm from the keyfob; I can also arm by 'calling' my car (I've turned off the remote disarm feature).

Yes and no, some of the systems constantly log data/info, but isn't reported unless the alarm part of the system has been triggered, but it still has been logged, whether or not that data is kept somewhere is another story.

I don't know if they all do it, but they definitely have the ability to.
