Default Hard top ?

Hi, just picked up a 2006 S2000 last night. Wondering how you guys deal with the winters in the midwest? Hard top or no hard top? If so what do you recommend? OEM, Spoon, Mugen?

Congrats on the purchase

I have a Mugen hardtop that I use on long(ish) drives and for the cooler temps, but I don't drive the S in the winter. I wouldn't say a hardtop is necessary for winter driving, but it might help with keeping the cold out and would protect the soft top better during the winter months.

OEM or Mugen would be the best choices, IMO, plus with the OEM top you can still use the defogger on the back window, you can't with the Mugen or others.

For the price of a used hardtop and winter tires, you could get a $2500 car.

That being said, I was thinking about how much someone would give me to rent my hardtop for the winter

I daily drove my car through two Chicago Winters, just happened to have a second set of wheels and tires. The second set of tires were cold weather (not ice and snow).

When I daily drove mine, I didn't have a hardtop. I did clean my soft top quite a bit more to keep salt off of it, and then condition is with 202 Protectant.

If you get a hardtop, I'd suggest the Mugen one...I like it the best for looks. I like the OEM for the larger rear window and for having the defroster functionality that no other hardtop has.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome! For looks I'd go for Mugen and for functionality I'd go for OEM too just like what Luder mentioned above.

I drove mine through two winters downtown, downstate, and all around Illinois and I did alright without a hard top. Just don't drop the top while the car is outside in sub-zero temps... it's more of an issue for plastic windows than glass ones, though.

That being said, as Luder94 mentioned, the OEM hardtop DOES have a defroster, and personally I would recommend it because of that.

oem hardtop here.... i personally think spoon looks the best by far but the oem is amazing fit and finish and practicality of it is great and its a nice change of pace as it changes the entire look of the car for the few months its on
