Where are you living now?

Jasper is pure BFE Indiana. Lots of corn and soybean fields. Weather is typical midwest - cold in the winter, fair amount of snow. Rainy spring, hot and humid summers with frequent thundershowers, warm and dry autumn (nicest season in the midwest, by far). Never actually been to Jasper, but if it's like the rest of the small towns in Indiana, it'll be conservative, traditional, and fairly dull. Your car will stick out like a sore thumb. It's 60 miles or so from Louisville, 100 miles from Indy. The Indy S2000 guys have regular get togethers, and are a good bunch.

Jasper is a nice, quiet place to live with some beautiful scenery. I lived there for a short time between moves once. Spent a lot of time there since I grew up about 20 miles away and now live in Evansville.

It's an ultra conservative, German-Catholic town with a great economy and excellent schools. It's billed as the "Wood Capital of the US" due to the major manufacturing plants like Kimball and Aristocraft, along with several other cabinet manufactures.

The cost of living is extremely low. A nice 3-4 bedroom, 2000+ sq ft home is in the high 100K's. I rented a really nice house there, about 1400 sq ft, 3 bedroom two bath all brick ranch for $595.00 a month!

There are some great places to go close by like Patoka Lake, French Lick, and West Baden...

To sum up, if you like it quiet and conservative and a lot of beautiful scenery it's the place for you...

The best 3rd baseman in baseball today, Scott Rolen, is from there!

I just moved to Il. from Ca. and I like it a lot. My friends call me crazy but I'm not.

Crazy is not taking an oppertunity that may change your life for the better.

Cost of living was a major decision in my case. I also enjoy the changing weather. Everyday has been different so far. I wake up to something new everyday.

Schools are good here if you have children. People are friendly. You can actually leave a 1-2 car gap in front of you on the freeway and no one will rush in to take it.

Compared to where I am from the home prices here are unreal. You can get a hell of a lot of home for $150,000 - $400,000. Back in Ca. that price range buys you a shack 8 feet from your neighbor.

I know its not Indiana but I dont think Il. is too different.

If you like twisty roads southern Indiana is a good place to be, when we have S2000 drives around here we tend to go to that area. I don't know how the roads are near Charlotte NC so it may not be any better, any way if you move we hope to meet you.
We are planning a group drive in August, when are you moving if you take the job?

I've found that Illinois (outside of Chicago), Wisconsin (outside of Milwaukee), Michigan (outside of Detroit), and Ohio (outside of the 3 Cs) to all be very similar to Indiana. Mainly just depends on what type of scenery you're looking for - WI and MI tend to be more natural (forests and lakes), IL/IN/OH tend to be more farming oriented. You can get a lot of house for not a lot of money (relative to the big cities) and the people are generally nice.

Thats what I am loving here. It's definately not what I am used to, but I feel like I belong with the friendly people.
