Default Local service for the S2000?

I know I haven't been active in this forum for awhile. I do need some advice/help/direction though. I've hesitated posting this, unsure how to phrase what is happening and unsure of how it would be recieved.

I have a health situation that has a fairly high probability of becoming quite grim at some point in the future. My immediate reaction upon learning this was that I should eventually sell the S. When I expressed this to my wife, she said if it turns out that I wind up not surviving this, she will keep the S and drive it regularly. She has learned to drive stick and is actually doing pretty good with it.

Up til now I have done all of the maintenance on the S. My problem is if things get to the point where I am unable to continue doing this, or she winds up having to take care of this, I'd like to have a somewhat local source for service, someone that can be 100% trusted to work on the S correctly without having to deal with any of the horror stories commonly associated with Honda's dealer service of the S. Someone that will treat a non-knowledgable customer decently and fairly, so she can come away knowing that the car has been properly taken care of for scheduled and non-scheduled service.

If need be, the S can always be driven/flatbedded to Ganley; I trust Jeff implicitely and I know he will do the right thing, and there are friends in the area that she/we can stay with for any needed duration. However if a local shop can be found that met the above criteria, obviously that would be preferrable.

Hell, the way the situation stands right now, the car hasn't even had a wash since last Fall; I've been unable to even accomplish this mundane task.

Thanks in advance for the help, gang; much appreciated.

Tom

Tom,

If your situation gets that grim, which hopefully it doesn't, make sure your wife has some contact info for a few of us other local owners.

I can offer up work for free for simple stuff like oil changes, maintenance, etc. However, for warranty work, I will whole heartedly advise talking to Ed Wong at Motorwerks Honda.

I have a couple of recommendations for body work as well.

Another thing you may want to advise her with is that if she does need to go into a service shop that she may be unsure of, have her take one of us that is very familiar with the S2000 in with her (or at least review whatever quote she gets).

Hopefully it doesn't come to this, I don't know what's ailing you, but best of luck and keep good spirits (both in attitude and in ales). If there's anything I can help with in the more immediate future, please let me know.

Ditto!

Get well Tom.

Tom, I hope you are well soon, and am sorry to hear of your trouble.

I was going to post up Pinyo's name, but he beat me to it. I do all my own maitanence, and even a fair ammount of my own aftermarket installs. However, if I ever got into anything over my head my one call would be to Pinyo. He is a real stand-up guy and would take good care of your car.

Thanks for the support, gang

So far I've still been able to do oil changes (thank goodness for the Fumoto valve), and with the help of my nephew we did the trans/rear-end fluid changes a couple-three weeks ago. He did all of the heavy stuff like jacking up the car, snapping the fill/drain bolts loose, and heping me under the car. Unfortunately he's off to college out of state now, so I'm kinda stuck if anything else needs doing.

I've always loved working on cars and have never been afraid to dive in whenever something needs to be done. It's the physical situation I'm in now that is hampering me.

I had planned to adjust the valves this past summer, and inspect the valve stem keepers for slippage. I even bought a SnapOn valve adjustment tool. Unfortunately, what with losing something like 60-70 lbs since the first of the year and having little or no strength or endurance I really didn't want to dive into something like that; not a lot of energy.

One thing I'd really like to get done before the cold weather hits is flush the brake and clutch fluid. It's not something I've done before but again, normally that has never stopped me. I had planned to pick up a speed bleeder but now with the medical situation I know I wouldn't be able to do this on my own, so I never got one. I bought the car the end of June 2003, it is (or was) my daily driver and has a tick over 20K miles on it, all trouble free so far. :knock on wood:

I could really use some help with the brake/clutch flush, along with washing/detailing the car. I've been the only person to ever wash/wax it, and I really didn't want anyone else in the family to attempt this; I really want that to be done right, and not half-assed like it gets done for most normal cars.

One other reason I haven't been able to wash/wax it is due to one of the side effects of the chemo. I have become extremely sensitive to anything cold, both outside and inside my body, so cold water coming out of a garden hose is definitely out for the forseeable future.

I have all the stuff needed, having pretty much stayed with Zaino for everything. The only thing I don't have is an orbital polisher; I had planned on picking one up eventually but till now I really haven't had much need for it.

I also have a pretty good selection of tools, along with 4 jack stands and a floor jack. No inside place to work on the car, the garage is barely big enough for it to fit, but the driveway apron is large and level and is where I have worked on the car in the past.

I'll tell you what. If we can arrange a weekend date for sometime soon at my place, and if the weather cooperates, can I get some help with the flush and wash/wax? Like I said, I have the tools and place to work, as long as the weather is ok. I can pick up whatever things we'd need, and I'll gladly to provide food/soft drink/beer for whoever can be here. BTW I'm in Hanover Park, 1/2 block west of the Menards that's located at Irving Park and Wise roads. I do need to stay relatively close to home due to the chemo side effects sometimes kicking in unexpectedly, so I'd prefer if possible to do the work here.

Luder, thanks for the advice regarding Motorwerks. I'll definitely go up there and talk to Ed and see if there's a good fit in case of warranty work needed. My wife is also on S2KI but doesn't post much. I'll point her to the UMW forum so that in cease things go really wrong she knows where to go for advice, etc.

Pinyo, thanks for the offer for service. If there's anything mechancal needing to be done, and if Motorweks doesn't work out for some reason, I'll definitely get together with you.

Gang, I really really appreciate the support and offers to help. It's going to be a long row to hoe medically and I don't want the S to "slip through the cracks" so to speak.

Lemme know about getting together; should I start a separate thread for this to pick a day, or is this thread ok?

Hell, we could almost call it an "end of the year" gathering.

Thanks guys, you have all been a big help pointing me in the right direction.
