is this the local WI board?
There are Wisconsin people in here. You are in the right place.
I've never lived in Milwaukee so I really can't answer your question. However, I can say that the one of the redeeming qualities of Milwaukee is that it is located near Chicago.

I'm from the milwaukee area. so is johnny, will, colin, keith, andy, etc. There are quite a few of us lurking about, and we like to get together. ryan just moved here from Cali and we've done our best to make him feel welcome.
I'm a Chicagoan but lived in Milwaukee for close to 6 years of my life for undergrad and grad.
When I left is when I realized how much I liked it out there. It's a great big "small city". It's as metropolitan as Chicago, but in a much smaller scale, yet it somehow retains the community aspect of smaller cities.
The city has the night-life, the weekend activities, the eateries, and its fair share of friendly people. It's a culturally diverse city (although not as diverse as Chicago), with a major focus on populations of German, Polish, Hmong, African/African-American, Hispanic , and Middle-Eastern decent.
The burbs of Milwaukee are mostly like any cookie-cutter burbs of any major city. Nothing more to say about that.
It's definitely a great city to be in, and if you're raising a family, the burbs of Milwaukee (brew-city) is where it's at.

just a little background, no kids, no family, so don't really want the burbs! I have a friend that just moved there, and she moved to the burbs due to having a LARGE dog, not very downtown friendly.
Are there cool lofts and old buildings to live in? is that the 3rd ward district? Or?
Hows the summers and springs?

Summer and Spring seasons is the best time in Milwaukee. In fact, during the summer they host the best summer festivals I've been to....even the African-American World festival (Afro-fest) is good time.
They are host to many outdoor concerts of A-list bands, groups, artists. Just take a long weekend sometime in Spring or Summer and check it out for yourself.
Trust me, it's a great place.
