I think state parks are the best idea, and I think the sand dunes in indiana are the best bet, because they are pretty close to chicago and closer to mich so it gives a middle ground for people to come to, and wisc people can still make the ride out there. I know there have been some pretty large euro meets out there, just check with the state parks to make sure you can secure the grills and all that good stuff.

im digging the harper idea... hanging out in the parking lot then driving over to streets and maybe getting food at the hooters over there? i can talk to the office building next by they have plenty of space.. idk just a thought.. This won't be on for the next couple months for sure...

also im guessing a saturday would be a better idea... Anyone down south of ILL let me know where would be a good spot.. i was kinda thinking U of I.. but idk

^^^ If you want to draw people in from out of state we'll have to do something more substantial than just hit up a restaurant.

I'm thinking a dedicated kart outing would be good.

The cruise/parade through Streets is just a "mobile show" if you will. We'd all end up at CIR in my suggested possible plan.

So maybe a "show" (the 'meet' part) and a kart outing (the 'somethin to do' part).

If you want to get formal with a show like the VW guys do, we could scrounge up some $$$ and get trophies too.

Just a thought, make it simple, don't make too much stuff going on, IE karting, food, etc, just make it a meet. Going out to eat is great for weekly meets, but i don't go to a HUGE meet to go karting... plus CIR racing with 100+ people would be a mess... just my .02

I think you will attract more people with prizes and stuff, but i wouldn't recommend charging money or anything you should try to get all the prizes from vendors and whatnot, again just my thoughts...

Finally i'll leave it with, I work saturdays, i think everyon knows this but i am sure i am not the only person who works on saturdays, I HIGHLY recommend a sunday meet

^^^^ Not everyone would have to go racing. CIR has their own parking lot, food, etc. and is already "car themed".

Just a thought as I have no connection with CIR other than having raced there.

If you do a proper show someone would have to come up with $$$ to do promo, trophies, etc.

If this is just a meet (e.g. show up, parking lot pimp, and leave) then never mind hehehe

The guy that owns the office building next to hooters is NOT cool with car meets.

One other consideration is cost. CIR is a little pricey for some, and may push down your participation. Also, don't forget that not everyone is over 21. This CAN be a factor sometimes.

What draws crowds for events like Wake the Dragon, Fall Colors, and even FWT are the drives. I don't think you need anything fancy like a car show, or a go-kart meet. My reccomendation is to keep it simple with a group drive on some great roads.

There are liability issues associated with, well ANY event, but the larger it is and the more group driving there is, the greater the potential. Liability waivers and event insurance are things to look into.

Some suggestions: Kettle Morain in Southern WI has some good roads. Starved Rock is a great drive. Galena is a great destination too. Those are the ones I know about, and they are all in Northern Illionios/Southern WI. I am sure there are destinations in MI that are worthwhile too. One other suggestion, and an idea I have been working on for a while is Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. From all accounts, there are some SPECTACULAR roads out there. The only downside is that from Chicago it's about 7hrs to get there, and from WI, MI and IN it's even further, so it's ALMOST as far as the Dragon.

I still think your best bet for a HUGE turn-out is a long weekend event.

I think you are getting some great feeback in this thread. So take it all in, and make some decisions about the type of meet, (Length, types of activities) and then we can start working on specifics.

Just a thought.. I talked to my boss at my work.. And he would be willing to sponser us with trophies and somewhere to park. Also he said (since I work at discount tires) thewinner of best of show would get 500 bucks for a set of tires... Again just a though I'm not plugging or anything at all.. Just got to work and my manager and I started talking..

I saw Sand Dunes SP in Indiana on the map and thought about it. Seemed like a neat place and would provide a neat backdrop. Not sure about parking accommodations though.

Highcliff SP in WI would be really cool. I've been there before, however its location seemed to make it out of the question on Lake Winnebago (north end).
