Default MI Detailing How-To Day

Date solid for November 1, 2009 at 2:00pm, location below...

FORUM DISCLAIMER: We will not have products for sale, or anything else for sale! This is a free event open to anyone. If you do plan to wash your own car, bring some supplies. Bring extra and swap stuff with others if you want to try something new. Minimum would be a bucket, wash utensil, drying towel, and quarters.

What is this event?
This is a gathering to talk about washing techniques with an emphasis on washing/care for the Michigan Winter. It is not only about "the best" technique, but what you can achieve with simple tools like the coin op and a bucket. We will go over some basic theory / strategy, talk about what types of supplies to use and why, then wash some panels in various methods so you guys can see it being done in person. If you like, you can try out what you learned right there after we finish. We will hang around for awhile after the event and give tips, answer questions, or just chat if anyone is interested. We will not wash your car, at least not this day

So again, this is a loose, relaxed gathering to discuss proper washing techniques. Why washing techniques? It is the place where most people cause the most damage and swirls to their finish. No matter how much you polish out your paint to perfection, or what high dollar products you use, or how new your car is; if you wash your paint incorrectly, your expensive and lengthy detail will last a very short period of time. Proper washing extends your efforts, is simple, and fun! Plus you can make fun of your friends when they look like total noobs washing their ride with dish soap and a dish sponge.

What will not happen:
We will not detail your car there! We will not go into other topics like polishing and interior cleaning. If there's enough demand for other topics, we'll plan another day. We will not try to sell you anything! We will not advertise! The only logo you will see is on our truck's window, promise! This is a multi-forum community event with the goal of educating fellow car enthusiasts how to better care for their vehicle - not a sales pitch. We hate sales pitches!

What to bring: A chair, and a jacket. Forecast is nice, but chilly. Bring a pad and paper so you can potentially jot down any notes, or write down some product recommendations. Detailing supplies and quarters will be needed if you want to wash your car while you are there. If you have any questions on a product you own that you want to ask us about after our presentation, cool.

So come on out, bring your ride (so everyone can see some cool cars!), bring a camera, your significant other(s), and spend about 2 hours with Jacob and I learning how to better care for the car you've already spent too much money on!

Location
OK so this is where it is going to be:

Coin Op (no name) behind Belle Tire and Jax located on the west side of Rochester Road just north of Auburn. You will have to enter through the Belle Tire entrance. Or use the Barne's & Noble parking lot towards the back. Plenty of space, many bays so we will not be in anyone's way. Extra large parking next door to keep the coin op as clear as possible.

Keep in mind this is being posted on multiple forums for folks to come to, so keep your valuables locked up properly as we won't accept responsibility for anything. We're only coming to talk and spread some knowledge.

If you have friends that want to come: bring them. If you know of some sites this isn't going to be posted - link this info to those that are interested. If one person shows up or if 50 show up, the show will go on.

I think I/we should be able to make this. We have dinner plans, but I/we should be able to squeeze those in before. Might even bring two cars (all of them are in need of a bath right now). Which car or cars is unknown at this time.

sounds cool Sam and Kam - I know there aren't a lot of s2kiers in SE Michigan, but I figured that I'd extend the invitation to my favorite forum

If either of you come - I'll surely try to hook you guys up with a little somethin
