I was getting out of class this noon and going for lunch. Before I reached Tago Bell, I got pulled over by cop. I wasn't speeding or doing any stupid illegal things. But I got a ticket. Guess what's the reason?
It said loud muffler on the ticket, and $75 fine. It hurts.
Here's what the cop said. He came over and said, this is a nice car huh? Is this your car boy? I said yes. I know that he's thinking I stole someone's car. And the cop said, do you have any record? I said never. And then he took my driver's license and got back to his car. I don't know what he's doing with his laptop in his car, but it took like 5 mins for his work. So, after that, he came over and say, do you know your exhaust is too loud? You are doing something against the law. I heard you reving your engine on the street. And of course I said I'm only downshifting infront of the stop light and ready to stop as the green light is changing to red. But he ignored me.
He said, you are attraching too much attention from other drivers on the road. If I saw you one more time reving your engine like that, I'll bring you to my office immediately.
Then there's my ticket.
This is my first time getting a ticket in my life. Why cops can issue a loud muffler ticket?! I never heard about that. Why don't the cops spend more time on tracking stolen cars but brothering my exhaust? A blog away, there's a dealership who sells super cars, like Farerri, Lampoginni, Lotus....etc. I'm sure their stock exhaust is louder than mine, are the cops giving tickets to everyone who try and test drive those super cars? My friend sit in my S said the cop just don't like you, Asians, after the cop left.
Anyone got a LOUD MUFFLER ticket, please speaks, I'm so unhappy with this thing happened today.

My exhaust is louder than shit and I'm asian but I've never been harrassed or have I ever gotten a ticket for it. Well I guess it helps being a girl but that's just bullshit.

 

First off the cop was a dick, second off if a cop is harassing you like that, personally i'd be asking for a chief of police or another officer to come out because thats just dick, HOWEVER there are laws that do require your exhaust to be under a certain DB, you could always take the exhaust off take pictures and explain to the judge you took it off, he might just let you go with a warning and court fines. (which are usually around 80 or so i can't remember its been a while since i went to court) Depending on the exact situation i'd file a complaint with the police department that filed the ticket.

Then again the whole thing can be skewed because your the victim and often times it is, not saying it is, i just wasn't there. Just some of my thoughts... people can comment on what i said if they feel is wrong.

 

^ ^ If it's the same NFR that was driving around the Tilted Kilt meet Saturday (pretty sure this is the same guy) his exhaust is extremely loud (Invidia - I think) and is above the db laws for Illinois...

Dude, believe it or not, I got pull over again tonight on the same road (Ogden). But this time, it's a different township cop. He said I'm not speeding but I had a illegal exhaust. And again, he used the same phrase, you're attraching too much attention. He said " I heard you miles away before I saw you eventhough you're not speeding."
Got luck this time, the cop is white, he's a cool guy, and he only issue me a warning ticket. And ask me to bring this car only to the track.
People, I'm sick of being pulled over for exhaust. I'm really tired of it. Did you people always pull over not because of speeding or running through stop sign but for the exhaust??
I'm just not feeling really good. I'm sure those modified covette or mustange or SRT are hell lot louder than mine. Why? Why it's always me.
After the warning ticket I received tonight, I drove home without even hitting v-tec, always shift below 4k. And I swtiched to my QUITE RDX to get some KFC for dinner. Man, will you feel sick and tired if you have the same situation sa me? Now, when ever I saw a cop, I'm just scared. Surely I'll keep my S in the garage for a while, maybe I'll put the silencer on if I really need to drive it these week. But I think I don't have the gut to drive it anymore before my mind recovered from today's ticket ticket thing.
Huhh....sign....sure I'll miss the v-tech kicking in.

If it was my dad but not me, I think my dad will do the same thing as you said. But I'm just a college kid, the police officer had enough experience to bully me with words. That's why I always want to be older and look mean, so that no office is going to bully me and take advantage of my poor english.
But yeah, you're right, i'm the victim, there's nothing I can do.

 

Yes, the meet at Tilted Kilt on Saturday. A few of us noticed a red AP2 driving around the parking lot a few times and never really stopped to come in, I'm guessing that was you.

 

You're going to keep to getting harassed, you're driving around residential type areas with an extremely loud exhaust, constantly revving it up and driving "spiritedly" will draw more attention to you and the car. I would definitely put the silencer in, at least then it will quiet the car down a bit.

I really don't think the fact that you are Asian has anything to do with it.

 

Yep, I was there and yep, your car is pretty loud.

There is a simple answer though (even though you don't want to hear it)... if the loud exhaust is a problem in your neighborhood and you can't get the car out of the garage without getting pulled over...get something quieter.

I don't want to start an argument but I don't think that the idea that you're a victim in this case holds any weight at all; there was a choice made to install the loudest possible commercially available exhaust system on your car (barring open header, of course) which is technically against the law. Now I'm sure that there are plenty of people rolling around with equipment just as loud/louder than your equipment but that doesn't make yours any more legal in the fine state of IL. Yes, the cop was a dick but I don't think you were victimized.

IMHO of course, please let me state again that I don't want to start a fight, just state my opinion.
