Well, I hoped to never start a topic with this title... Yesterday a woman tried to turn left in front of me while I was going 55 on a country highway. I was unable to stop in time, so ran into her and went off the road and into a guywire for a power pole. She was deemed at fault by the police and ticketed for failure to yield.
We were both able to walk away from the crash. I have pretty nasty burns on my wrists from the airbag and my chest and back are sore from the impact, but other than that I am thankfully okay.
Assuming my insurance company decides not to total the car, I am looking for recommendations on where in the Chicago area to have the repairs done. As well as any other suggestions anyone has.
I am terribly sorry to hear about your accident. How someone cannot yield on a turn like that blows my mind. The important thing is you walked away from it.
The best body shop I know of is Guy and Sons in Chicago on Van Buren. Have brought my S there a couple times already.
The S held up pretty good compared to the other car. Glad your safe, whats that saying what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger? I had some body work done at nationwide auto, and they did a good job.
Glad you are not hurt too badly, and the S2K looks like it took things well...now the worst part...good luck with the insurance companies, car rentals, etc. as the victim here in America, you will continue to deal with S**T (I know, from 3 accidents where I was hit in other cars...as the victim, it is just not fair!)
Boy do I have some info for you. I just got my car back friday after some pretty extensive damage. It looks like brand new, you can not tell there was an accident.
But, Be very careful and review the estimate carefully. DO NOT let your insurance company *guide* you to one of their preferred body shops. Also when you pick a shop insist on new OEM parts. They WILL try to fix it with used, refurbished or non OEM parts to keep their cost down unless you speak up.
If it is a good customer friendly shop they will use what you want to fix the car.
Here is a pic of the damage I had. The entire inner structure was replaced forward of the shock towers. All sheetmetal forward from the doors had to be replaced. AC system, entire right side suspension, right front wheel, radiator and a hell of a lot of mechanical components were replaced. They used all OEM parts.
I'll post a pic of the car after the repairs later today when I go snap some pics.
I used Nationwide Autobody in Schaumburg. Am I happy? Extremely!
One of my co-workers had a car in the shop getting fixed when I was looking around. I went and inspected the shop and their work. I was pleased at a lot of things like how clean the place was. All vehicles are kept indoors. They had a new 911 being repaired, I saw the quality of work being done and was impressed.
Here is a picture taken today. Visually, the only hint of the accident is my license plate which is very straight but scratched up.
