Whats up with long rears and short fronts for the lugs?

bc the long lugs stick out a 1/2" on the front wheels and looking down the side of the car from the front it was all flush except for 5 lug ends sticking out, it drove me effin insane so i bought both sizes. now they dont stick out past the wheel. i want to throw them on now, but i think i'm goin to send them to tein and have them rebuilt before hand. so middle of may they be sent out.
