You're spot on about no front plate helping avoid laser. The S is not really unique to this though compared with lots of other cars. In fact our really steep windshield rake probably hurts us more than if you were driving a Vette, or hell even a Prius.

Wow, thats pricey. But Ill do some research and check out the reviews. It may be worth it. Thanks
Only on your 24th $75 speeding ticket. The first 23 $75 tickets are totally cost recovery.
Although if you're the kind of person that goes for a lawyer to clean your record, or count insurance hits from tickets, it might be a bit more "worth it."

All great comments. Would be best just to slow down. But all of us are here because we like to drive fun cars. I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets those empty stretches of road and get a chance to open her up. I just like to have the piece of mind of when and where to do it. Ive always had good luck with my Valentine One, I may just get another one, but still would like some laser protection as well.

aCab,

You're going to be 'that guy', telling us to slow down and be all grown up and stuff?

You must be driving your company car right now. Now that thing gives no inspiration to not slow down.

Yeah, I think we can all admit to "opening up the taps" a little bit on some open stretches of road.

Well my dumb ass should have big mouth shut cause I got pulled over for speeding last night and got a ticket. Haven't got pulled over in couple years and the day I talk about it I get pulled over. I was in my pickup so I wouldn't have had a radar or laser protection anyways. Hopefully I can get some supervision since its my first offense in Indiana.

I have a suspicion, no concrete proof, that the S2000 without a front number plate, is a little resistant to laser speed gun. On two occasions I've driven under bridges on Interstates and looked up only to see a cop pointing a laser speed gun at me and then pull it down to look at it because he's not getting a reading. The disadvantage of Lidar is that the beam (about 3; wide at 1,000 ft.) needs to be placed onto a surface that will reflect the little pulses of light so that the Lidar can measure the time intervals of reflections changing and calculate speed.

The license plate is the favorite target because it is made with retro-reflective paint (little beads of glass that reflect light for night purposes) and will easily reflect the Lidar's pulses. The big flat front of a truck and headlight lenses are the next best sighting elements. If you don't have a number plate (who would do a thing like that?) the headlights and front of the S2000 may not make good targets due to the angular design.

At the end of the day, it's a guess on my part, but, I do know that in both instances the unit was Lidar (has a different shape than doppler radar guns) and that the cop could not acquire me as a target.
This is a very good point and observation, Harry. Considering the S2000 has virtually no completely flat front faces, sans a front plate if applicable, it could definitely be pretty resistant to this. I have heard this is a reason a lot of states want front plates, because it makes it easier to tag cars with lidar.

Is anyone friends with a member of L.E. who would be willing to test this for us? I'd rather not try my own independent testing.

My last ticket was in the S (no front plate) with laser.
