Default The perfect beater car

Hello all! Since most of us, including myself, won't be driving our S's in the winter (i'm a Wuss. ) what are your "other" vehicles? The reason I ask is that my current beater(stock 96 nissan sentra) is starting to bog down. I'm starting to look for a replacement and I wanted to other's to hopefully nudge me in the right path. I'm not rich so the most I'd like to spend on my beater is 6K.

You should be able to find a nice civic/integra for that price. Maybe an Accord it you look hard enough. Unfortunatly I'll be driving mine this winter and this winter only, due to some bills that need to get paid off. But come next year, I'll get another Honda product----can't go wrong.

Driving the S in snow is really not that bad. I did last winter. As long you have some decent snow tires, life is great. I mean I would pass trucks up in snowy conditions. This winter i will not be driving my S. I too am trying to find a beater but i dont even have that much to spend. I am really poor.

If I go with a Civic/Integra, do you have any idea what milage I should shoot for? I've not had much luck with 4 bangers in the past (my previous rides: 96 VW Golf- engine failure, 97 TJ Wrangler-piss poor gas milage (11 to 15MPG!!!)) I've driven many but have not owned hondas other than my S. Do the engines in civics or integras perform adequate past 75K? Since my VW had engine failure at 45K, I get really ancy when any of my vehicles pass that marker. Also, 6K was just a ballpark number. Since I am also paying off my S, techincally I have no money.

The mileage and reliability of a used civic is top notch. With a 4-banger civic, you should get over 30mpg and be able to run it problem free for well over 125k miles. My brother owned a '98 civic and put 75k miles on it and never performed an ounce of maintenance on it except for an oil change here and there. He never took care of it or took it in for the scheduled maintenance. Just got an oil change ever 10k or so... You might even be able to find a certified civic which is good for 7 years/100k miles.

Good luck in your search...

cars.com should be a good place to start

Civics run forever. Used car market is way down. Good for you.

my "beater" is a 2002 Silverado 1500.

They do run forever - outside of regular service, I've had no issues in over 135,000 miles (knock on wood).
