A driver dodged law enforcement in a high-speed chase through two counties before disappearing into a cornfield early Saturday, police said.
The Noble County Sheriff’s Department received a call at 1:48 a.m. reporting a male driver in a black Honda S2000 convertible driving recklessly at the Gas America in Ligonier near U.S. 6 and U.S. 33. Deputy Chris Moriarity began trailing the vehicle on Indiana 9 traveling south.
The chase continued as the vehicle accelerated to high speeds, reaching 110 mph when traveling through Albion, police said.
Officers lost track of the vehicle near Indiana 9 and U.S. 33, but caught sight of the vehicle again at 2:07 a.m. as it turned south onto Indiana 9 from Pressler Street near Tri-Lakes. Again, the driver refused to stop, continuing to accelerate at high speeds, police said.
Moriarity deployed stop sticks, striking two tires. The vehicle lost a tire at Indiana 9 and County Road 400 North in Whitley County.
At this point, the driver got out of the vehicle and fled into a cornfield. After searching for 45 minutes, officers were unable to find him, police said.
