Default Possible future owner in WI

Hey everyone,

Nice to see some S2k owners in WI. I currently have an 07 WRX, but am leaning very heavily towards the S2k. Always been a Honda guy, 1 Integra and 2 Preludes, and I figure why not get one while I only have the gf to drive around. Any of you use them as DD? How have the WI winters treated you? I live in Sheboygan right now, where the roads really suck, but travel back to Brookfield quite often. I am going to test drive an 03 this weekend at Lexus of Brookfield, but am probably going to get an 05 or 06 if I decide it to be the right car. Any info or thoughts would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I DD my S in IL, and in the winter it sucks. If you're not out brushing off the snow from the soft top, you're wishing you had traction control so your car didn't want to slide right off the road everytime you try to move from a stop . . . and apparently, salt/slush/ice like to build up on the brakes and make it hard to stop as well . . .

with winter tires I have had better control than my mini cooper, acura TL and civic. Its an additional expense, but its totally worth it.

on the other hand, if you drive like an idiot all the time, the snow tires wont help, and you will total the S. when it starts going sideways you have to let off. on the week before xmas there was a huge snow storm, and I watched 4 accidents on my way home from a party. I avoided two of them, thanks be to snow tires. I would have been in at least one of them if I had the mini.

If you buy winter tires for winter and drive with caution (in other words not like an idiot) you will be just fine. There are several DD S2K's in the state.

Well I went and test drove two S2000's today, an 03 and an 05. I think come Monday I will be a proud owner of an 05 Silverstone S2000. Man, both cars were amazing! My dad has a 91 NSX and this was the closest thing I have driven to having that feeling of being connected to the road. I was skeptical that I would really miss the WRX's instant torque, which I will, but the fun of driving the S will outweigh that by far. I am so used to shifting at 4-5000 rpm, that it was very strange to let the S go to its delightful symphony of high revs. Anyway I will keep everyone updated to when it becomes offical. Look foreward to meeting fellow UMW S2000 owners.

The UMW really has a great group of people and it's constantly growing with new owners such as yourself. Most of the WI meets are in the Milwaukee, Racine area. Things are slow on here during winter.

Make sure you come to some autocrosses. There are many good groups, Madison, Milwaukee, Tri-State, Chicago all have clubs of some sort.

About 2/3 down the page are sanctioning bodies, check their sites out for dates. Milwaukee and Chicago SCCA regions have autocross driving schools early in the year and they are well worth it. Others may too, I am just not aware of them.

Both are available to any type of car, so bring the WRX and friends too!
