Recommendations for Interior Detail
Hi Everyone!
I'm looking to hire a professional detailer to shampoo/steam the floor carpets in my CR and possibly to clean the seats and door panels which are made of Alcantara (synthetic suede). The previous owner of this CR was a smoker and needless to say, I want the smell gone, lol.
Has anyone had any experience with this and can make a recommendation?
Thanks!

You're on the right track, Des. The main depository of tobacco residue is in the fabric components of the car. Unfortunately, the second depository is the air ducting.
About a year after quitting smoking many years ago, I pulled every panel that covered the carpet and shampooed the carpet with RESOLVE using this very low speed scrubber tool that I have and dab-drying the carpet with micro-fiber towels. After letting it dry overnight, it was done again the next day.
That had a big impact.
Eventually, I pulled the driver's side duct that hangs under the steering wheel and replaced it with a new part and deep cleaned the duct that feeds it.
By taking hashi (wood chopsticks), making cleaning heads on them by spinning them in cotton batting, then dipping them in nail polish remover (pure acetone from Walgreen's), I got a lot of brown junk out of the ducts. Do not work with the nail polish remover for more than 30 minutes or so and ventilate your work space.
Don't expect to mitigate it all. The residue is in the cavity behind the roll hoop garnish, in the sound deadening material under the rear tray and lots of other places where you will not be able to clean.
I think that I got a 90% mitigation.
Unfortunately, I don't know of anybody that will do that sort of stuff for you.

I talked to Phil at detailers domain (sponsor of our wash/wax forum) and he recommended I shampoo/steam the carpets (leave the seats alone) and use this decon spray: http://www.detailersdomain.com/1Z-ei...ETU_p_813.html. Regarding the seats and door panels, I read on the CR forum that you can clean the alcantara fabric with a mixture of 1 part woolite and 5 parts water in a spray bottle followed by a wet vac to remove all the moisture.
Have you ever used a decon spray like this before? Where did you get the Resolve scrubber that you mentioned? Is that something you can rent?
Thanks Harry!
^ the guys at Detailers Domain know their stuff, I wouldn't hesitate to go by their recommendations.
