recommended place need help
im not really familiar on how you guys do it here
unlike on the previous state iv been(NY). i got a 91 civic dx and got a letter for emission testing. a friend of mine told me the one in schaumburg is not so strick and didnt even take mins as it says on the flier. he drives an 88 toyota camry. i did it @ joliet and didnt pass
. i dont want to let this car go since its sooo good in gas and never burn oil and no trace of leaks. theres no funny smell on the exhaust compared to my s2k with berk test pipe. my s2k definitely wont pass if they put that chemical reading machine on the exhaust
. but thank god i pass last february before putting the test pipe.
if you have any experiece or recommended place let me know. im willing to drive an hour away just to have this done. i think its good upto 3 tries. but i wanna do just the 2nd try and make it pass.
thaks in advance

Schaumburg location has been closed for over a year now.
The only locations I know of that I go to are in Crystal Lake and Elgin.
None of the people I conversed with at both those locations were "Benjamin friendly".

thats what i thought so too. are those places being run by the government or by a certain company/individual. coz to me it looks like the government run it. i hope my second chance would not be as strick as the first time. my friend i think just got luckied with his test.
Yup, emissions testing centers in IL are state run agencies.
I equate them to the DMV, county courthouse, AND a whore-house.
...you know, there's state pensioned employees running the show, they pass judgement on you and your car, and they'll stick it up your rear while you idley standby and watch.

1. State employees at DMV or emission centers:
Guaranteed salary and pension after a certain tenure = no motivation for performance, quality, or speed AND no sympathy to the customer/client.
2. Courthouse or emissions center:
You are in front of the "authorities" at these places to have a judgment passed on you, your behavior, or what you own.
3. Whore-house or emissions center:
At a whore-house, ask for an "around-the-world". They'll make you pay first. Then they will proceed to make you the 'catcher'. Prodded right in the back side. (NOT THAT I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE).
Take your modded car that has an OBDII reader plug either not working, or has signals sent to it to try and fool a plug-in reader, again, prodded in the back side. (AND AGAIN, NOT THAT I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE).

I failed emissions last year for the 91 legend. I got it tuned and now it runs better (improved acceleration and MPG) and passed emmisions.
Didn't they tell you locations of mechanics that tune the car with their emmision pass rate?

he just ask me if i know a mechanic and i said yes. then he said is not neccessary to go to the office. how much did you spend(in tune up and etc) to have it pass? and what they did to the car? does changing the cat and full exhaust help lower down the emission? and by the way, im using super 4 bosch spark plug would this increase the carbon content? i did a full tune up including the rotor, distributor, spark plug, high tension wire, valve lash to OE spec. the only thing i could think off right now that havent change is the fuel filter and catalytic converter. i did those stuff coz when i bought the car i didnt like the performance, but after all those thing been done i god 4 more miles per gallon. so thats another reason i really wanna keep the car.eventhough without an A/C but got a good heat even during the coldest night on winter.
and it never let me down on long drives only until now the emission problem.
The EGR was clogged and not all of the butterflies were working. IIRC, the legend has 3 butterfly intake valves (kinda like the integra) and for mine only 1 was opening. It ran a bit rich and was smoking like crazy.
