Default Replacement top and seats in Chicago

Hey all, I'm currently about 1/3 of the way through a cross country trip, and had my roof slashed and seats stolen two nights ago in Chicago . I guess someone needed them worse than I did. Obviously I need new seats to continue, and a replaced top would be nice, but I am unfamiliar with the shops in this area. Can anyone recommend a shop or dealer who might be able to help me out?

On the plus side, I guess I'll be able to stay and hang out with friends a bit longer here..

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your top and seats! i can't remember the last time i saw a thread here where people had their seats stolen. (although i did get my top slashed in the burbs a year or two ago)

Unfortunately i dont know where to direct you for top or seats other than maybe the UMW for sale thread?

good luck

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I'm looking for a dealership or something so I can have the insurance company deal with it.

That really sucks, and I'm sorry to be hearing this. I did a quick search on Craiglist and found a set of MY06 seats for sale. Asking price is $650 OBO.

Didn't see any soft tops on there, but the seats should at least get you moving.

Best of luck to you.

Sorry, I feel for you. Your best bet is to try and get some used seats from Craigslist. If you try and get them from the dealer they add up real quick, close to 6 thousand. I saw that there were a few for sale in the chicagoland area.

As far as the top goes I would just try and temporarily patch it up, but I think there is an active thread a few below yours that talks about getting the top repaired. I think it even has info on the shop.

Good Luck

PM username Quivers. He's got a few legit sets from salvaged S2000s and my basement.

He may even have a soft top...if you really need a soft-top just to get you home, I have an AP1 soft-top that I can sell you cheap to get yourself back. However, you'll have to do all the labor...I absolutely HATE working the soft top stuff.

Also, if you're fine with an AP1 top that has a torn / cracked rear window, I have one sitting at a friend's place up in WI. If necessary, I'll go up and grab it for ya and it's yours. I've done replacements before and could help you if necessary, too.

[EDIT] For clarification, this is a COMPLETE unit with frame, motors, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Maybe if I wait long enough I can just buy my seats back on craigslist =P. They were the red/black ones, so I'm guessing a little harder to find. The most annoying part is losing the Backyard Special lowered seat rail that lets me fit in the car a bit better.

As for the top, I saw the thread on getting tops repaired but this is a 10" circular hole cut with a box cutter, so I'm guessing that's not going to repair so well. Are the AP1/AP2 tops interchangeable?

I'm not from the US so filing an insurance claim down here is new to me. Is it really better to just go out of pocket on this stuff and find something on craigslist over having the insurance deal with it? I think I have a $250 deductible and even used the top and seats are probably going to add up to more than a grand. Note that it is a US car with US insurance (California based), not a Canadian one.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think the price for the seats and rails will probably add up to close to 7 thousand from the dealership. The insurance company will try and find used seats but that is only if they can find them. The top itself is probably a little over a grand and that is without install, which usually takes a long time. So I would say that it could add up to close to 8-10 grand if all the parts are replaced with new parts. I think most AP1s usually get totalled by the insurance companies when these things happen. However the AP2s are worth a bit more, so I cannot say for sure. Also, as far as the top goes, you can always try temporarily patch it until you can find a AP2 top. Good Luck
