Soft-top repair
My AP1 (has glass rear window) has some small holes in the roof. I stupidly put the roof down while it was cold and it has made it bigger. It seems that someone has used some kind of liquid rubber which is holding well on one side. Well anyway, i'm going to do a little maintenance today so i was wondering if anyone has any good methods for patching these roofs? stop it from ripping more? I would really like to avoid replacing the entire roof since the hole doesn't really bother me, and I have the roof down 90% of the time. I just want it to stop increasing in size. Any advise? Thanks
Find some OEM material, likely from someone throwin out/swapping out a ripped or torn soft top for a newer one.
Cut patches to mend on both sides of the hole. In the past, people have sewn the patches on using glue sandwiched between.
I've done this successfully with no leaks, however, over time, the glue does flake out. The next time I did it, I used an epoxy without sewing the patches on.
I plan to swap out the soft top on the wife's S2000. The old one will be used for scrap vinyl if you're still looking for material. I'll be getting to it in another month or so...soon as the weather warms up a little.
