Default Spray Painting IPASS

Guys my car is all black, and this thing sitting on my dash just looks plain hideous. I wanted to know would it still work if I spray painted it black? I mean what options do I have?

Just remember, you may not get your $50 back when you turn back into the state.

Also, keep in mind that the IPass may become obsolete in favor for newer technology. This may happen sooner than you think. I'm not privy to any information on this.

If you can't paint it black....here's an option: one of my girls...didn't stick hers on the windshield...everytime she passes thru it...she held it on the front glass...it still works...you just hvae to be careful that the light changes when u pass the toll. But that's what im going to do with mine =)

that's what i'm doing with mine as well, for now. the only thing is that a lot of times when you pass by those overhead signs there is a message saying the unit needs to mounted on your windshield. think they'll start ticketing for that or anything? i was gonna order more velcro things...i think they have them available on the ipass website? i'll look...

When I was in California, I had a Fast Track, same exact thing as an iPass, only mine would beep instead of flash green.

I used to keep mine in the secret compartment and it worked fine, but I did get a ticket once for not displaying it in my windshield, the ticket said "Toll Evasion" I dunno what that was about since I provided my billing statement to the judge and it clearly showed my account was billed 1 minute before the cop gave me the ticket. Anyhow the case was dismissed by the judge.

I dont know why the signs say you must have it mounted near the windshield.

For those with soft-tops, the IPASS does work (top up or down) if you put the transponder in the secret compartment.

However, for those with hardtops...FRP or CF....it does NOT work. I've tried!

Shawn, did you ask the court to reimburse you for the drive to/from the courthouse, for the highway congestion and stress you obviously had to face when driving in CA, the day off of work, and the amount of gasoline used to/from the courthouse.

One asshat's cop cost you all that trouble. WTF?!

Paint it.

The plastic velcro is readily available locally at Radio Shack. I think the Illinios Tollway Assho-- I mean Authority -- will send you some for free, but for 2 bucks you will have enough to last you a LONG LONG time.

I was always under the impression IPASS needed line of site. I have never attached mine to the windsheild...just hold in up. When I had the RSX, I just stuck it to the glass on the sunroof

I-pass does not need a line of sight to work. I keep mine in the secret compartment and it has worked properly everytime. If you ever want to just try it, go through the manual lanes to check it.
I know that Urmil said that his didn't work with a hard top.
I do have a friend with a Grand Cherokee and his works from within his glove compartment.
Get some carbon fiber sticky tape and put that over your i-PASS. Something a little different.
Any cop who stops you for not having it displayed on your windshield should have to work on the west side to see what a real cop does all day.
