Default Street Racer

First of all, I in no way support street racing, I think it's way too dangerous. That being said:

I'm coming home from the city tonight, on the Kennedy, just passed the toll and a gorgeous blue 350Z with HUGE chrome wheels pulls up next to me going about 65. He tries to entice me to race, so I say "what the hell". The entire time I am able to pull on him and when I'm behind him, I was actually able to pass him. This guy clearly couldn't drive well, he had obvious miss shifts. This goes on until I get off at the Roselle exit. After I exit, I'm feeling pretty confident with myself and my car.

So I pull up to the light at Central. Up next to me pulls a CRX driven by a kid easily under 18. This car was hilarious. 14" chrome wheels, think Pep Boys chrome hub caps. Coffee can exhaust that sounds like a choking dog. Blue neon lights inside the car. And the paint, completely primer. I actually laughed out loud. This kid has the ba**s to rev his engine as though he wants to race. I think no way, but he really started to annoy me, so to shut him up, I decide, "what the hell" yet again.

I pull away very good and hit the 1-2 shift flawlessly. As soon as I do, I realize that this PIECE is a half car ahead of me. At the 2-3 shift he's a car and a half ahead. So I immediately get on the brakes.

He gets to the Algonquin light, on Roselle still, before I do. I limp to the red light very embarressed. This kid turns down B96 to actually laugh at me. This really gets me. I think, no way will you get me again.

I drill first gear with the most perfect jump ever. The 1-2 shift couldn't have been done faster by the best automatic. Again this ass is a quarter panel ahead of me. The 2-3 shift is crazy quick, and yet he's half a car ahead. Not until 70-75 do I begin to creep on him. But at this point I stand on the brakes to get it back down to the 45 mph speed limit. He didn't slow down a bit and flew down Roselle, well ahead of me.

Moral of the Story:
I'm now shopping for a 1000hp Skyline and gonna go hunting for this kid.
And, if you see this kid, don't end up like I did.

Probably had an engine swap, or FI...those things are no joke seeing how light they are.

Oh yeah, and stop street racing. Or at least stop making the S look so bad j/k

I try my best to avoid those riced out types of cars at the light. You never know what they got going on under the hood. It's hella embarassing to lose to such a tacky looking car

Primer black, chrome 14" steelie(hubcaps), rattle in the exhaust, and revs to entice the S2000.....that's a dead give away that the driver was trying to be in "ultra-sleeper" mode.

Now I'm going to have to read a thread about how the lowly CRX beat the $38K S2000 over at MWIR.net !

Those cars are so light weight that even just with a B16 (Civic Si motor) swap, those things scream. Forget about it with either a B18c1 (Integra GSR motor) or a B18c5 (Integra Type R).

There are a few out ther with H22 (Prelude VTEC motor swaps. Heck, I'm trying to find the one sleeper that's the K20a2 swap (there's a white one rolling around Chicago-area).

Don't underestimate the ricer youth this generation. They are about simple aesthetics, and speed. In my day, it was just about having parts and being noticed.

Just the other day I was on Nerge road at a light and this Nissan Sentra pulled up next to me. It was really beat up, all primered with black steelie wheels, body kit and stickers. The thing barely idled. I had already made up my mind to take off normally. As soon as the light turned green I was suprised that the Sentra took off slow too. But when he shifted in to second I heard a pop off valve and a very deep grumble from the exhaust, I was glad I didnt make a fool of myself. I think he would have fried me.

I'm sorry for what happened. i totally understand the way you feel. Honestly, the S isn't that great at low end (this is the reason why I would consider going turbo). I didn't encounter any crx's yet (thank goodness) but I've encountered a few M3's that wanted to race me on the streets and I just go for it coz even if i loose, I'm thinkin I'm still a girl. It's not too embarrassing if I loose against an M3. lol
Actually, one of my friends in kansas has an 05 S and he easily outruns his other friends b18c1 hatch but then again the 05's are a little faster. All in all, like Luder was saying, crx's are really light (lightest car you can swap any b's series motor into) and with just a b16...that shit can haul ass.

Side note: next time, if you're at the light with him again (or any other "ricer)....ask him if he wants to hop on the expressway...

indeed those crx, civic hatch is no joke.

h- series, b- series, k- series swap in those ride and you looking at a quick car.

2200-2400lb running 200-220hp stock.

light weight that once get into vtec makes the car fly.

cost

1k for shell + 5-7k worth of mod = one quick car.

beside S2k is one of the car on the top of the chain list to race.

NSX, supra, LS1, WS6, 350z, g35, M3, s2k, etc... a lot of integra and civic like to race these cars once they have done some work to their ride.

Now days you need to give your s2k a little more boost. All these cars coming out now are running pretty damn quick out the lot.

I was out picking up some speaker wire for my sub install in the S. The trunk was already all taken apart before I realized I didn't have the wire. So I didn't want to drive it like that. Some guy in a BMW something or other pulls up next to me at a light, rolls down his window (mine were already down) and he says "Nice Car." I nod, say thanks, go back to watching the light. He says "Wanna trade?" I chuckle, and say "No." The light turns green and I start to pull away normally, when I hear tires squealing. I realize this asshat is launching on me. So I nail the gas, dump the clutch and go. He had pulled about 1/4 length on me before I realized what was happening and I had an entire car length by the end of 2nd.

We both turn onto Golf rd, and at the next light the street is three lanes wide. I take the far right lane, he takes the far left and there was some guy in a firebird between us. The guy in the bimmer was trying to talk to me THROUGH the other guy's car. He was trying to tell me my car was slow off the line, or that something was broken. I just said "I didn't know we were racing until I heard your tires squeal." Then he just shut up.

I pull into the Tweeter parking lot, the the guy parks right next to me. He tries to explain that he's not following me and that he really needed to go to Tweeter. He says he works at a dealership and blah, blah, blah. Whatever dude, I just wanna buy some damn SPEAKER WIRE.

Bottom line, don't bring a knife to a gun fight. If you want to go fast off the line, get something that does it well. Then don't live in fear of "all-go-no-show" ricers.

I wouldnt go so far as to say I live in fear of them, half the time I'm too busy laughing to do anything else.
